how wide - 40.5 hood?

that's the one i bought rollie, after seeing the pics. it great, well made and handsome to boot but a bit wide and some of hit blocks the r4 finder.
i'm being picky here but looking for the least blocked finder.

Just an idea, but what if you bought a rubber hood and cut it back enough to see through the finder the way you want to.

I see. Forgot about the R4 .... The Rokkor is pretty flare resistant. How about an empty filter only ?

I just measured my S&W vented hood for 40.5mm and it is 2.23 in across the outside. This was using a digital caliper.

I just used a ruler -- so it's not really precise -- on my S&W vented, and it looked like 2 3/16" (2.1875"). It takes a 55mm cap. I think I bought the hood and cap together. I use it for those really sunny days on my m-rokkor, and it doesn't intrude much on my RD1.

i have a heliopan hood that is similar in length to 2 filter rings together that i will try also.

and i have the original rubber hood but much prefer metal to rubber.

been thinking...wondering anyway...the small hoods for the cv lenses, the 21/28/35 lenses, the hoods are all pretty much short and about the same width. how does that work?
the hood for a 21mm lens is about the same as the hood for a 35?

my heliopan hood is about the same as the cv hoods. so if one works on a 21 then the other should work on a 40, i would think.

gotta try some shots with it tomorrow.

Joe, the original Minolta hood measures approx 2 1/4 inches at it's widest when opened. Use that as a guide.

Yes that's what I use on my AGFA Sensor. When I found an old cracking rubber hood, I peeled off the rubber and use only the metal ring. More compact than any hood I've known and it does help fighting the flare.

I often use 43-46 + 46-49 adpaters as an alternative hood for my Konica camera. It actually looks good to me 😉 . Not sure how effective it works against flare, though.


PS. Sure I'd love to simply buy a vented hood or two for my little cameras, but so far haven't found a good price considering the extra p&p cost for buying abroad.
They just seem so rare & expensive in local stores here in Taiwan.
