I have a few questions about the 1.4x magnifier.

I'm wondering how the viewfinder of my .72 Leica MP viewfinder will change if I add the Leica 1.4x magnifier using a 50mm Lux Asph.

1. Will I be able to see the 50mm framelines?
2. Will I be able to see the metering arrows?
3. Will the metering arrows be magnified so much that it will be a bother?
4. Is it totally wrong to get a 1.4x with a 50mm? Should I only think about the 1.25x?

I can only comment on using the Leica 1.25x magnifier with 0.72x VF M Leicas and 50mm frame lines. In that case the VF magnification becomes almost identical to that of the M3 (0.90 vs 0.91). In case of the M4-P and M4-2 the 50mm frame lines will almost fill the whole VF. In case of the M7 (50 mm frame lines are a bit smaller) there is a little more space around the frame lines. The meter-read out is visible but not as convenient as without magnifier.

I don`t wear eye-glasses anymore (-2D diopter screwed into either the VF or the magnifier) so I can bring the eyepiece quite close to my eyes. When still wearing eye-glasses I could use the 1.25x magnifier only with a 90mm lens and a 0.72x Leica VF.

thanks for the response.
So do you think the 1.25 is a sufficient gain? Does it help at all? Do you think the 1.4 will throw the 50mm framelines out of view?

For me the 1.25x is sufficient gain, especially when using the Noctilux. I can`t comment about the 1.4x but depending on your eye-sight (eye-glasses) it might throw the 50mm frame lines out of the view.
