A while back, there were rumors of a problematic batch of AP 400 showing some emulsions defects.
Can someone update on the issue?
Did someone recently buy some and used it?

THX!

Michael I did have a couple of rolls that showed a brownish stain. It was localized over maybe a third of the roll. I did not think I screwed anything up in processing .

The stained images are still usable on the whole.

Hi Michael,

I have used Arista Premium 400 for years and I have no problems with the emulsion. I use different developers like Xtol, Tmax, Pyro... and I never find any imperfection.

My last order expired in 2014, bought some moths ago, and I had the slight impression that the emulsion is thinner than other times, otherwise, is the same film.

I encourage you to use this film.

I also have these rolls, but not on all of the films had this. I thought i messed up the dev, but in using different developers the same was visible and in similar way it definetly looks like fault in emulsion etc. freestyle has not commented on my enquiry about it.
My rolls was bought during last year if remembering correct.

I had this happen with a couple rolls I bought in a big batch (100 rolls) last Spring. So far this only happened twice, not sure how many rolls I have left.

I will not stop using the film over this isolated experience.

P.S. I had a strange experience with some "official" tri-x a while back, some residue I could feel in the dark when loading the tank. However, the developed film looked fine. In any event, things can always go wrong.

It's all I use. I've gone through about 80 or so rolls so far and have another 100 in the fridge. No problems.

Nice to see you posting here, David.

I just shot a roll of Arista Premium 400 and developed it in Diafine -- no problems.

I bought a 1000 rolls of the Arista Premium 400 20 month ago - so far shot about 600 of them with no problems. No stains at all - just the damned curling when dried initially. I have used different developers, D23/D76/D96/HC 110/Pyrocat HD etc with good results. To me it is a TriX in a different box. I don't know if they have changed the emulsion lately though.

No problems with mine here either but I don't have nearly the stock as some people do. I buy in 20qty chunks usually.

I should win the lottery so I can buy 1000. My freezer would be thrilled. 😀

Well, I only nabbed a dozen rolls or so about 1 month ago. Works well for me. I've been developing the stuff in Caffenol and it seems fine. I use a longer time than usual and fewer agitations, helps with Tri-X too.

I would not hesitate to get a 100' roll, but I have so many other films to burn through first.

My method for all film is to cool dry in a SenRac Drier. I process with the emulsion inwards, remove the film to wipe excess Photo-Flo'd water, and respool emulsion side out. While I'm wiping the film, I put the reel in the SenRac on hot to dry the reel so water doesn't run onto the film and create water spots.

My Arista Premium dries without curl.

My last few rolls felt thinner.
They dried very flat. They had low contrast.
A FIRST for me in Rodinal. I normally have too much contrast, when scanning. The color tones seemed different to original Tri-X..
Maybe my Rodinal changed.. same bottle for a few years..
I will not buy more. Kentmere or Ilford , my next way..
