How's this for plumbing?

Trying to set up the drain system for my darkroom sink.
Im being brave and posting some photos of what IM doing.
Most of the PVC is NOT cemented yet so I can reconfigure if need be.
In the Tub is a Flotec Sump Pump from Home Depot. The sink will drain right into the tub. There is a check valve down in the tub. I put a small piece of PVC on the pump fitst, then added the check valve and continued with the PVC from there. I will have the lid on the tub with 2 holes cut for the pipes when I get to cementing it all together. Im looking for an electrician to come and install outlets for me. Im not planning on using this thing until I have that done.

ok, good...bad...ugly?

'Plastics' didn't Mr. Meyers say that to Dustin Hoffman in 'The Graduate.' LOL with your project it looks good. I wish I lived near you.
 
It looks like you already have PVC drain pipes in there. Why not tie in the sink drain directly instead of going into a tub, and needing a sump pump? Also, what are you doing on the supply side? You'll probably find four to six brass garden type fawcets handy for film and print washers as well as a two foot long hose for rinsing trays, etc. Get plenty of electrical outlets installed. It's also nice to have seperate wall mount switches for the white room lights and for the safelights.

Good luck with your darkroom, and I hope that you'll still be using it in forty more years. I'm convinced that exposure to all those darkroom chemicals is the reason that I still have the same bushy head of hair, weigh the same and have that same flat belly , and the doc tells me that everything, heart, lungs, etc. look great "but stop smoking anyway".

Hi Al, and thanks! For supply lines right now, all I have done is split of the washing machine lines and combine the hot and cold into one garden hose. The hose runs along the basement floor and up into the darkroom. Not ideal, but it kinda works. I'll look into your suggestion. The temp control is a bit tough this way, but can't afford a huge plumbers bill right now.

As far as the pump......well, I assumed to ge the water all the way over to the houses main sewer line I would need the help of the pump. The sink's drain is lower than where I was able to connect to my house's sewer line. I could cut into the sewer line for a lower connection but Im too chicken to do that.

Well, I would inveigle myself into your life, then I would become a friend of yours, and finally, I would be able to use your beautiful darkroom. I have been watching this and it looks like a wonderful darkroom.
 
It all makes sense to me...a permanent darkroom setup...I remember those days...
I have to set it up in the downstairs bathroom for now...

Ive had all kinds of darkrooms over the years. Im cherishing the opportunity to do something like this for the first time.
 
When I lived with my parents I had a room I built under their patio...It was about 5 x 10 feet with a sink/counter and small table for the enlarger...I spent many hours in there...

If our daughter goes away for college I'm thinking of setting up a darkroom in her bathroom upstairs...it's bigger than the one I use now...
 
When I first got the darkroom up and running I had yet to install the copper piping. I was using a garden hose to bring water to the sink, so it is doable that way. If you're going to hook up anything like a (clothes) washing machine, though, make sure that you always turn off the water faucet to the hose when you're not using the machine. Those washer hoses are pretty sturdy and can take a lot of pressure but they do spring leaks on occasion. ;-(

Great point Al! I will do that. When we moved into the house we had to have some plumbing done and the plumbers did put a shut off valve to the washing machine hookup. Though I havent been using it...I should stop being lazy. Still Paying off those bills.

It's all about being able to print, yes? SOunds like fun.
 
Im think I may change the part that is to the left of the sink before it goes out thru the wall. seems too complicated,no?

Hi, I will. I just finished reconfiguring the pipes some so its a little straighter route to where it goes out the darkroom. Then cemented everything in place. I wore a mask but man that pvc cement stinks!!
Im letting it sit for a couple hours to cure and letting the ventilation run to get some of the fumes outta there. Otherwise it's ready to test out. Maybe around 5:30-6pm my time it'll get a test run.

Now im off the buy a wall switch the wife wants me to chnge out from a dimmer to a normal switch.....

...She's off shooting a wedding and I'm being the good husband....
