Hi Guys,
I'm going to use HP5+ and Rodinal and I'd like to push the film to 800...

Any suggestion on diluition and times?

Thanks a lot,
Roberto.

Thanks plexi,
One more question:
I'd like to have not too mach grain and I don't need great contrast. (portraits...) 1/25 or 1/50?

Cheers,
Rob.

Roberto, HP5 and Rodinal is not a very nice combo -- seriously grainy. I love both products, but not together. HP5 looks great in HC-110 or any D76-like developer. Rodinal is also not a good push developer.

My $0.02

Gene thanks a lot... you 2 cents are really appreciated! :D

I'm not sure if HC-110 or anything like D76 are readily available in my hometown, and, I must develop the film by the end of next week.. (it seems to me that in the last few months I always have to run.. :( )

btw.. to reduce grain and contrast is it better 1/25 or 1/50?

Thanks,
Rob.

Roberto:

I believe Ilford ID-11 is the same as Kodak D-76. It may be easier for you to obtain.

Roberto, can you tell us what's available? If so we can maybe make a suggestion. As Paul says, Ilford ID-11 is a good choice. Diafine is good for pushing, if that's available.

Yeap Guys,
Sure.. :D

I just had my coffee-breakfast and I'm ready to have a panoramic tour of the two photo lab that sell something useful here in my hometown..

If I'll find something like ID-11 or DD-X or HC110 I'll buy it, otherwise I'll come back with the list of available developers..

In the worst case... what about using the times suggested by the HP5+ booklet that I found this morning on the Ilford web site:

Agfa Rodinal @1+25 8min for 800 ISO..

Many thanks to everybody!
Roberto.

Hmm, HP5+ is already pretty grainy in Rodinal 1+25 at 400, I think pretty much aný developer would be better for pushing - Microphen worked OK for me some time ago, I've heard good things about HC110 as push developer (look at photo.net), but have not tried that myself, in a pinch, ID11 will do, but my favorite for pushing films is Calbe A49 (now also sold as Adox ATM49) - you could get it cheap at www.fotoimpex.de, but I'm not sure whether you could get it before your deadline...

Roman,
You got the point! Everything would be better than Rodinal for this kind of work.. but around here Rodinal is the only one available! :(

Moreover I'm going to use the Old Good Rondinax to develop the film (http://rurmonas.cust.nearlyfreespeech.net/manuals/rondinax35u/rondinax35u.html) and this will add some extra variable in the game! (you'd know.. I love vintage stuff! :p)

I'm going to use Rodinal 1/50 for 16 min.. I'll try not to overshake, in order to avoid highlights blow-out.. and.. well, we'll see
