PS -- Stephanie, if you do BIN this lens, keep in mind that you do NOT want to try to mount it on your Fed! It's got a tab-type focusing cam, so when you try to unscrew it, it will catch on the pointy end of the rangefinder coupling arm and become locked on the camera!
I think that the reality is that pretty much all of them after 1957 fit - certainly mine from the '70's does, just see my avatar 😀 I think that with everyone believing, perhaps rightly, perhaps not, that the earlier the lens, the better the quality only the oldest lenses tended to get tried. And before 1957, the back of the lens appears to have been slightly larger. So get a newer black one and I'll be willing to bet that it will fit just fine.
I was tempted, but the filter ring looked like it might have a flat side. (Bonk.) The focusing knurl is worn through the paint as well. But, still probably a very good deal. Let us know how it comes out.
Well, *I* didn't get it but someone did. I'm tempted to contact the person and ask if they'll give me a rundown on how it is when they get it...then if they don't want to keep it I'll see if they'll let me buy it off of them. Heh.
Edit: Was too tempting and I did. Don't know if it's someone from here or not...don't recognize the Ebay user ID.
Well, here's an update: I did get an email back from him. He didn't realize the problem. He'll keep me updated as to whether we're right or if it's just the crappy photos.
