I just thought some of you may be interested in some pretty good remaindered titles on Photoeye. I grabbed a hardbound copy of Salgado's "The End of Polio" for $12.95 a few days ago, and am waiting for it to arrive. That's 1/3 the Amazon price for the paperback edition, folks. 😉

Some great books and great deals there. I just order 4 books. 🙂

That's great! Maybe we should start a WTT thread for books. 🙂

My pleasure.

Which 4 did you get, Remy?

IIRC, the following:

Manuel Alvarez Bravo - Dutch Encounters (never knew Bravo had been to Holland! Hopefully more interesting than the few photos HCB took when he was in Holland))

Danny Lyon - The Destruction of Lower Manhattan (my recent visit to NYC playing havoc with me, and I'm interested in history)

Aperture Writers & Artists Series - From Adams to Stieglitz (another book in my current list of books about what makes photographers tick)

Geoffrey Batchen - Each Wild Idea (again a book about what makes photographers tick)

I've been thinking about the Danny Lyon book. I have The Bikeriders -- very interesting. Let me know how you like it.

Same one I purchased.

Thanks for the Eggleston link, Ray. I've heard the printing on this one was excellent, as well. Do you have it? Btw, I will often get ideas from PhotoEye, and then see if the books are available at Amazon—sometimes they are. You can save a couple of bucks that way.

🙂

Yes, I do Ray. The printing is as good as they say.

In my experience, Amazon prices in general are better than anyone else's, especially if you can avail of the free shipping. Unless you can find them remaindered or used.

Because I'm no longer receiving e-mail notifications (?), I have to go looking in my CP for replies to threads. I'm behind on this one.

I went for the Eggleston book, Ray, based on your recommendation and the reviews in Amazon. Three books total fo rme: the Bravo book, the Aget (this was in my Wishlist), and the Eggleston for me.

🙂

They seem to have sold out on the End of Polio. However, since this thread, I found it remaindered on Hamilton Books for even less -- 7 bucks or so. Oh well.

I got James Nachtwey's "Inferno" in the mail last night. I was hesitating because of the price tag, but sprung for it when Amazon had one copy left. Pretty awesome photos, and the printing absolutely first class. I am glad I got it.

Let me know how you like the Eggleston book.

Got the Eggleston book today, Ray. Very nice indeed. Thanks again for the suggesiton. I'll offer one up for you: You may want to check out Stephen Shore's Uncommon Places (if you haven't already); it seems to spring from the Eggleston lineage.

BTW, a buddy of mine has the Koudelka 'Chaos' book. Wow! Really nice printing. A big book with lots of rich dark tones (almost too dark). I may pick that one up, too.

I really like Koudelka's work. Can you or anyone else recommend one of his books. (other than Chaos) I'm finding it somewhat difficult to find them.

🙂

I just picked up another two books remaindered (and heavily discounted 🙂 ) on hamiltonbooks.com:

Rene Burri Photographs
Walker Evans: The Hungry Eye

You may want to check it out.

Grab the Burri book. I have been eyeing it for some time, but was kinda pricey. It is $24 remaindered (it is still $60 on Amazon).

BTW, Uncommon Places is on my list. I have requested it from the library to see if it is something I'd like to buy.

I just checked out that Walker Evans book from the library last week. Haven't looked at it much, but its accompanying me across Kansas on my roadtrip to Denver this weekend.

My fav recently has been Garry Winogrand: A Man In the Crowd

HamiltonBooks doesn't ship outside the US.

Would someone be willing to order the Rene Burri book for me and ship it to me?
I can pay you back through paypal.
