Browsing eBay this morning I stumbled across this listing, that somehow did not come up in my saved searches:
Canon 50mm f0.95 Lens in Leica M mount

The M-mount on the TV lens looks very sanitary, though different from the conversion I used to own.

Usual disclaimers - no interest in sale, no relation to seller, etc.

It does look like a nice, tidy conversion. Since this is an original TV lens, there's no cutout in the rear element for the RF coupling tab. It's clear from the photos that a tab has been added, but I can't see exactly how (despite downloading the picture and lightening it.) It looks as if it may have been epoxied onto the rear element, but if so it's a very neat job.

One word of warning for potential bidders: There's no sign of any kind of add-on linkage to push the lens release button on an M-mount camera. You need to make some provision for this because the back of a 50/0.95 is so large that it completely overhangs the release button.

On some M-mount cameras (e.g. the Epson R-D 1) the mount stands clear enough of the body that you can get a fingertip in to release the lens. On some others, though -- especially models with a collar around the release button (I think the M3 is like this) you'd have to carry a popsicle stick or similar tool to press the release button whenever you wanted to take the lens off the camera!

Any comments from someone that has one mounted on an M7?

Erik - How do you like it on the M8?

I'm really thinking about getting one of these...

Thanks,

Riccis

I depends on how fast you want one if you have a Leica. The conversion is 3 months and 300$. Id rather pay 500$ for a converted one, but wouldnt mind finding another cheap unconverted.

Is your lens as new?

Mine has some very small wear marks at the focus ring , but the glass is like new. Thats all I care about :) The charm of as new goes away when you convert it anyway. I cant stand waiting so three months is a long time for me. If you have the extra cash I would rather pay a little extra to get it fast as long as the glass is nice.

I also don't care about looks as long as it works... I'll check your Flickr and hopefully will buy this baby (unless someone else has one that wants to sell me now)

Thanks, man.

Who does the best conversions?

I have one I want to have converted. I have seen the hack jobs and I don't want to deal with the grinding marks and rough "focus adjustments" some conversions leave you with.

The one I'll convert is a RF coupled version.

I have one you couldn't tell from new, with a box and original caps. But what does new mean when you plan to saw and grind on it to turn it into an M mount?

In the end I think the really rare one ones will be the mint survivors hanging off a 7s...

I think Ken Ruth does a good job. PM me for email if you want it.

Thanks Erik, I do have his info, I'm going to post a "call for pictures" for samples of the different people's work....

I referring to the optics. I have not seem many that has no haze, fungus, marks and what not on the glass.

Time to add this monster to the vault.

They don't seem to be very hard to find with good optics, I've tried out several with no haze, fungus, etc. in the last few months (and seen a couple with visible imperfections which didn't effect images).

But as with any 40-45 year old lens, caution is in order.

So yours is for sale then? :D I do not mind waiting for 3-4 months. BTW, if I get one and convert it, can it be converted to a LTM mount for coding?

I got burnt with the Canon 50 f1.2, and the assumption is that there is always these things on the glass. So when a seller describes as Mint, it is not the case.

OK, time to go hunting for one!

Like I said caution is in order.

You should buy the one you pointed out on ebay if you want a mint one, it looks nice. (But I thought I saw you posting Noctilux shots, you really wouldn't need this lens if you have the Noctilux would you? !!)

Also, I don't see anyway to convert the lens to LTM - but you wouldn't need that for coding, just send the person converting it a codable adapter to put on it. ( Of course, I can't think of any reason to code it anyway...)

BTW, If you want to work a trade for a mint one for your Noctilux - PM me! :D

My Noctilux is gotten new, one where the box shows 6-bit :). I'm looking for the Canon if there is a nice copy.
