I just ordered mine. Of course, it says shipping in 1 to 3 months!!! So, we'll wait and see. I can always cancel the order if something changes in the photography world.

Gary or Akiva, can you talk about the EOS M firmware 2.0.2 for focus speed? I'm wondering if it's at least as fast as the X100 (not the S version).

I ordered mine from B&H Photo last week. On back-order though, so I'm not sure when I'll get it. Hard to beat the $299.00 USD price.

Sorry cant help here. A friend of mine asked to keep an eye on bargains that he could use for both movies and still work. So I emailed him about this camera and then posted the info to the forum for others who might be interested.

Have fun w/ it.

Gary

Thanks Gary.

I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to an email from Amazon saying that instead of 1 to 3 months, it's shipping and will be here in a week! So I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough.

I didn't expect to really like mine, but I do. It's replaced three cameras: Ricoh GXR (for M mount lenses and personal use), Canon 5D (for product shots), Pentax K5 (for video and events - okay, the EOS-M autofocus can't match the K5 for events, but I've found ways to get around it).

Here's my compact travel kit that can do both pro-level photo and video, with fast lenses (35mm/1.2, 50mm/1.5 and 75mm/1.8 Voigtlanders plus 22mm/2.0 EFM). 35-56-80-120 focal length, all in a tiny padded travel bag. What else can you get that would shoot M mount lenses on Canon EOS sensor? :D I used to shoot R lenses on Canon, now I can shoot my M Summicrons on Canon. Good deal, actually.

Which EF-M to M-Mount adapter did you purchase and how do you get precise focus wide open without screen magnification, focus peaking or electronic viewfinder?

I use a rather cheap Fotodiox adapter. Works quite well and seems good quality. The EOS-M does have screen magnification (I just discovered this myself!)... 1x, 5x and 10x. I only use it when I really need critical focusing, though, eg product shots or thin DOF. For video I just use an optical loupe on the LCD screen.

So far it's accurate enough even with thin DOF (this one is focused on the edge of the lens):

Even at close distance fully open (f1.8, in this case):

Here's the optical loupe on LCD screen (old photo of it on the Pentax K5, I have only one digital camera now so can't take a shot of it on the EOS-M). It's removable - you just press it on the screen and take it off after you're done. Mine is a very cheap China made device. US$25. The lens is made of plastic, I think, but it's sharp and clear enough. I don't do shallow DOF videos much; if I did, I'd spring for the 10x pricier Zacuto or something.

B&H has the set for $349 for the set with the zoom. The 22mm lens set is discontinued.

Cool, thanks!

It seems that the 22mm lens focuses very slowly, and I see it as being discontinued at B&H.
