Actually, I am asking the forum if this is a good deal. The seller won't go lower than $1300. I'm a bit weary of eBay from past experiences and would rather buy an M6 I can personally inspect. If all looks good, should I pull the trigger or is it too much? It's fair game if anyone else wants to purchase it. And what's so sought after about the 179 serial number M6?

Well, I'm not sure about that serial, but based on DAG's comment about serials 2mil+ having M3 like winding smoothness, I'd think they were more sought after =)

Good to know. I'm going to hold out for 2mil+ and I did not want to spend more than $1200.

for info, I sold my mint, hardly used 1997 M6 classic here on RFF a month ago, complete with all boxes and papers including a new cla for 1325 US. I'd say wait for one on here and I really don't see whats so great about a 179 serial. For an M6 IMHO get the very last classic made if possible!

You guys are all so helpful. My M6 saga continues...
kipkeston: Thanks for the link. I disregarded that post until now because I ignorantly bought into the Leica mystique. Great read.

off topic but where in LA and Orange County are you guys? I see the bay area has a group here, we should have one for this area!
Unless there is one and I am just an idiot and can't find it.. wouldn't be the first time.

Leicas over the passed two years have been moving upward, maybe, about $100 per year. Not long ago I saw the box sell on ebay for $125. Never mind serial numbers. Here's the site with the serial numbers and dates : http://www.cameraquest.com/mtype.htm
I recommend that you look at that camera as it is in the ball park figure of a used Leica in excellent plus condition. If you don't want it you at least have experience in looking and handling the item and can compare it to others. Nothing like experience!
