Looks like someone in Australia is selling the xp1 at discount.. 800 to 1000 is current used body price.

The rumor of the xpm is around April time frame... If I remember correctly...

Ps. I forgot to mention in comment section, someone said that in Italy, the xp1 already was being sold as discontinued about two weeks ago and someone else said that the xe1 would soon follow suite.

Cheaper than buying the new M!

Cheaper than buying the new M!

I have an X Pro 1 and buying the new X Pro that is coming is still way cheaper than a new M. I was reading that some think it could be APS H. that would be really great. I have an M8 and that would work well.

I just checked a few shops here in Italy, no discount mentioned, at least on their web pages. Most of shops have the xe1 available (kit or body only). Price for body only is around 900 EUR. I had no opportunity to check the chain mentioned by Paul in your link.

If I were a dealer and the X-Pro1 were being discontinued after 9 months of sales and the XE-1 after about half that, I'd drop Fuji. This is an amazingly short attention span, even in the digital world.

The X-Pro1 came on line with largely unfinished firmware, and it's a lot different camera from when it started (and better). Jumping the gun and releasing products with immature operating software is how you get bad reviews that stick around forever - despite all of your corrective steps later.

As a user, I could care less if a new camera comes out with PDAF. It would only be in the middle of the frame, and I've had enough time with Nikon DSLRs to know that PDAF can lead to much less accurate focus when lenses are not shot wide open. It also needs subject contrast, which is the same major failure mode contrast detect has. The only difference in practical operation is that the lens just goes to the focus point (which may be wrong) - rather than going back and forth until it hits it. And when PDAF fails, it too hunts. Split image focusing is nifty, but it's no more accurate than the focus detection it is based on. Would it be nice to have PDAF in addition? Yes. Is it a reason why X-Pro1 users should have apoplectic fits? No.

I think it's good that the X-Pro 1 and X-E1 are geting discounted. I'd find it hard to pay for one for full retail right knowing that there are new cameras coming with the improvements that the X100s brought.

Phase detection, faster processor, better manual focus options are enough reason to hold of buying a X-Pro1 and X-E1 at the moment. I bought my X-E1, 18mm and 35mm with $450 marked off so I essentially paid retail for the lenses and $550 for the X-E1.

I bought my xp1 last May, so I have had almost a year of great photos. It will still be a fantastic camera in a year or two. I can then upgrade to the x pro 3s and have had great photo years.
Or you can wait, and don't take any pics.
