Browsing eBay this morning I came across this seller disposing of an entire GX 617 outfit - drool... Don't see these very often. Not strictly a rangefinder, either - but the seller has the ground glass back for sale too.

No relation to seller, etc. Don't quite uderstand why he is listing all the items seperately - not as though there is a big market for the pieces.

Here's some info and a comparison with the Linhof 617SIII:

What a pain in the GAS. Not like I can come up with $10,000 to offer the guy.

That's a fantastic camera. Solid build, great lenses, and pretty lightweight (for the format).
Shame it's so expensive. :(

That is an odd looking front end on that camera. Is the front piece a removable cover?

Chad: Yes - the rectangular "body cap" comes off and the lens assembly registers at the four corner points and is cinched down by the two thumbwheels on the sides.

With a day and a half left on the auction it looks like the seller is going to have three expensive lenses left over and no body. And the guy buying the body and the 90mm has not bid on the ground glass. Quelle domage.

I've always lusted after one of these, but I'll have to win the lottery to buy one. However, I have noticed quite a few on the Bay at any one time lately, not sure why.

Standard eBay practice for people who want to make money on eBay. Buy lots or kits, sell pieces.

Research shows there are more people looking for one of those pieces to fill out a kit, than one person willing to pony up the money for the whole setup. No contest. Case in point, I bought a very complete Mamiya Universal Press outfit for $487. Lots of components. I sold all the pieces on separate auctions and grossed just under $1100. I even kept on lens for myself. Have done this a number of times.

I have been selling (for profit and income) on eBay for years. Buy kits and sell pieces is an important part of my process, as well as many other facets of successful auction. I was raise a "good little capitalist".
