Just thought I'd post this in case anyone is looking for a good start to the Kiev/Contax mount RF's... Looks like a US based seller who's listing quite a bit of Kiev stuff... As always, no association with the seller, do your homework etc...

2x Kiev + 50(x2) + 35 + 85 + 135 etc... (click link)

It definitely cost me more than the buy it now price to pick up this gear...

No worries Andy, glad to help out a fellow addict :) My Kiev kit has sat unused since it developed light leaks, so today I picked up the 2a Solinar listed in the classifieds... I have all the lenses (besides the orion & J-3) and I'm looking forward to putting them back in use.

Have fun with the Kiev ;)

Addiction it is, no kidding :) About 2-3 months after selling my black Kiev with a 135mm Nikkor lens, I started missing those two guys something fierce. I was able to put up a good fight until seeing your post here tonight...

There's just no way I'd be able to sell my black Keiv 4... light leaks or no light leaks. I know I'd regret it terribly as it was my first interchangeable lens RF. Sorry to be the cause of your relapse, but I'm sure you'll love having a kiev - or two ;) - back in your kit. They really are great cameras once you get used to their quirks, and the lenses (while cheap in $$$) are amazing.

Cheers!

Peter

ps you'll have to let me know how well your TEWE finder works on the Kiev... I haven't shot film with my Alpex 35-200 yet.

It's here and it's all good

It's here and it's all good

The Kiev kit finally arrived, looks better then I expected. Not a thing to complain about that I can see, even the light meter seems to work. The glass (35-53-55-135) on all the lenses looks so clean I almost feel guilty for having paid so little (the guilt will pass :))

I do have one question though - the kit came with a metal film cassette but one is not needed to load film in either Kiev. Were those cassettes used to load bulk film? I searched a bit here and there but apparently this is such a trivial thing, no one seems to have elaborated on it...

yes Andy, the cassette was to bulk load film.
In the hey day of the USSR, single load film came in a dark paper wrapper sans cassette & the photographer had to provide the cassette.
In Kievs earlier than your two 4M and 4AM, you could use a 2 cassette system so no film rewinding is involved.

Andy...a STUNNING buy! Wow, beautiful. Hope it all works (probably does).

The glass in that kit looks pristine...nice, nice, nice.

Thanks! I think so too :D Really glad to know I was not missing something wrt the cassette. Can't wait till daytime to take these puppies out..

Andy

The cassettes will work with a Kiev, contax II(III), contax IIa(IIIa), Watson loader, or Agfa daylight dev tank. But not with Leica, Zorki, Fed or Nikon.

They are only for the feed side of your Kiev

They are useful if you roll your own as they last for ever, or until you damage.

Enjoy...
Noel

Hi Noel,

I appreciate the info. Strangley enough, the "until you damage" clause will apply to me as I've managed to crack the side of the cassette. It was rather brittle to start with (cast iron of some kind?). Glad these are not critical to use the Kievs.

- Cheers

Well, I've decided to sacrifice this v. nice, clean kit to help pay for a new lens, so please feel free to check out the Classifieds :)
