Canon LTM HU : L1 with original German LTM Nokton

Mark: I would hate the idea of spending a large sum of money on a lens that is optically identical to one at one tenth the cost [or even less]. If it had been a super rare and super special lens, like a Nikkor 50/1.1 or similar, now that would make a difference on how I view such offers.

I got the Nokton 50/1.5 with the Prominent and the amazingly good 35mm Skoparon for the princely sum of $75 locally. I spend another $50 for adjusting/repairing the Prominent, , making the whole deal a $125 bargain. My wish was to use the Nokton and not collect it. Life is too short for collecting. We collect and then die. Then what?

I have to partially disagree, as the Nokton is a specialty lens if you want to be able to use it easily in LTM, as opposed to the kludgy Prominent. And it's much more useable than the vintage super-speed lenses like the 50/1.1 Nikkor, Zunow, etc.

I like the look from old Ultons better than old Noktons from what I have seen. Skopars too, more appealing to me than Noktons.
 
I like the Ultron, too. The Nokton definitely has its own signature boke wide open that's not to everybody's taste, sort of like a cross between a Sonnar (or Nikkor-S) & the Noctilux. I don't have much experience w/the Skopars, as the only other lens in Prominent mount I have is the 100/4.5 Dynaron (& I haven't had the occasion to really use it).

A while back an RFF member (somebody from Berkeley) did a side by side comparison of the classic Nokton
with Canon 50/1.5 and other 50mm lenses. Color portraits of a student friend of his. I remember that
the Nokton won. I couldn't find the thread. Do you guys remember ?

Also happy to see the 40/1.4 results again, now that I got that lens ....

For the record, $1,148.88 for the Nokton, to buyer "royalphoto".

$224.72 for the Canon L1, to buyer "scototripic1". That's a good deal.

How much more would both have fetched with an eBay seller with more feedback and a track record in photo equipment.

Unfortunately, due to the new anonymizer, we don't know how much Kevin Li bid (kinche-l).
