Just out of curiosity, what do you think he means by "preview lever is sluggish"? That's a weird way to describe bad linkages. Is this a common complaint?

I assumed the "sluggish" meant that it didn't quite bring the framelines right up -- some wear somewhere? If the framelines do come up, that doesn't seem like a problem.

Is this the one that also mentioned the film winder lever stop seemed a little weak? That made me more nervous.

"the film winder lever stop seemed a little weak"

I've read somewhere that this is a symptom indicating that the film wind mechanism requires replacement soon.

So, is this a deal breaker? I've gotten permission to buy the camera, and he'll even forgo shipping charges since it'll have to be shipped twice (he'll only ship to a U.S. location).

If Essex or another place can do the work reasonably, I could just have him ship the camera to them straightway and have it taken care of.

What do you all think??? I'm hurtin' for an M3. Is there a better deal waiting around the corner???

I'll be selling the meter as well, so that will help defray the cost. How much is that worth???

This is a bump in hopes that someone will answer my burning questions! It's such a pain living on this side of the globe, sometimes.

Anyone...

If it seems too good to be true, it usually is..... A camera with issues like those described I would like to see first.

Well, I don't think it's a case of being too good to be true. I think the guy is certainly being honest and up-front, and his feedback is great (100%). He also offered to waive the shipping for me. It's only $15, but still.

I think the real issue is that this needs a CLA sooner rather than later, which pushes the price up to around $700. I see that Essex has a $220 fee on their site, which is more than double what was suggested above. In light of that, I think I'll wait.

Thanks.

This still has a day to go, a lowish BIN price, and no bids. Something is not making sense. Here is what I would do, if interested before bidding I would get on the phone with Don Goldberg of DAG or whatever repair shop you would send the camera to and discuss what you know about the caemra with an expert technician. A CLA can repair a lot of faults, but you need to know if you may have to replace components and how much that may cost.

Another point: I Europe second-hand Leica's are a clearly cheaper than in the States or maybe even the UK. If anybody plans on visiting here it would be worthwhile to shop for Leica's as well. For instance: For a decent M3 with normal marks of use but not in need of CLA and mechanically and optically100% I'd expect to pay between 300 and 400 Euro (in fact I saw one last week for 300 with guarantee) and for the meter another 75.

Yeah, that'd be a good idea. I've already decided that this isn't quite right for me. I'm pretty sure there are better deals to be had, and things are more than a little tight right now anyway.

Thanks.

Wow! Anyone feel like doing a little shopping for me? Actually, I did have an offer in another thread from someone to scrub the German Ebay site for me. They seemed confident that they could get me a pretty good deal. I may take that route yet.

Thanks again.

This is the third time he's listed this. Looking at his completed listings, he listed it with reserve (not met) and $550 BIN, then with $450 opening and $500 BIN, no bids.

I had also considered this auction as a chance to fill the gaping M3-shaped hole in my Leica lineup, but I've decided to pass on this one. Realistically, I should get my M2 fixed before buying another M body -- the shutter is stuck, and in the process of fiddling with it to see if it would unstick, I seem to have wrinkled the shutter curtain a bit.
