I picked up the new Leica wide strap and the half case "camera protector" for the M8 from Tony Rose at Popflash (excellent service BTW, highly recommended).

I keep the M8 with half case and strap in the center pocket of a Billingham Small Hadley with lenses in the side pockets.

One day I notice a little bright mark on top of the (black) M8 bewteen the hot shoe and shutter speed dial. Hmmm, wonder how I did that? Never mind, it's done.

The other day I pull out the camera and see a 1/4 semicircular mark on the LCD screen. I go to wipe it off, but it's a scratch. A deep scratch!

Now I'm puzzled and wonder if there is something in the bag, I empty it out, wonder if my jacket zipper did that, etc. . . until I notice that the inner side of the metal tab that adjusts the length is a screw head and a little bit sharp. Sure enough if I move the strap around like it might be stuffed in the bag, the mark and the screw head line up!

So I put some black gaffer tape over it to protect, but I have 2 permanent marks on my camera that just didn't have to happen!

So I figure I'd tell you folks just in case I could save someone else from needlessly scratching their LCD screens.

Now that makes the camera officially "mine" hehe

The nice thing about having a new camera, YOU get to put all the blemishes on it. Enjoy its battle scars.

Yeah as I said, it does make it more "mine"

Keith, I just perused your pbase and RFF galleries. Very very nice work!

Hi Joe
I think the sticky screen protectors are worth the effort. I have used a kit made by "Kenro" The first sticker has been on a few months now and is wearing well.
