I was browsing on eBay this weekend, and came upon some camera stuff with 1cent opening bid. When I opened the auction item, an eBay login page showed up. Without checking the actual web address, I typed in my username and password. But then I realized something fishy was going on, because I was already logged in, and there was no reason why eBay would ask me to reenter my password. I contact ebay, and they responded as the seller's account was hijacked. They probably inserted a script in the item description to redirect the page to a phishing page. Lucky I caught on and change my password right away, and there has been on suspicious activity on my account so far. It looks like even links within eBay are no long safe. You guys be careful out there.

I have experienced the same thing - on several major sites. My*space is another that is crawling with filthy coding.

Here is the lesson I learned, it's always good to check the web address of any sign in page, even if you think the link that directed you there is safe. eBay's sign-in page should start with "https://signin.ebay.com/" and paypal's should start with "https://www.paypal.com/"

Here is some stuff about that scam

Here is some stuff about that scam

Here is attached a screen shot of the new scan going on the auction site.

There is the screen shot of the item list and then the screen shot of the "item" after you click on it.

I saw the listing icon . . . obviously a scam . . . and decided to go through and see what they were selling. . . .I figured it to be the new scam.

PLEASE forgive my posting the adult image in the item listing, it is part of the evidence here.

Obviously, the first item on the listing page is the door to where you are asked to input your username and password - notice the URL on the top of the page is NOT legitimate.

how did you find this "film camera" with the naughty icon? 😉 it was a "nikon s3" with 1 cent starting bid that got me. Thanks for posting the screen shots.

I just opened internet explorer, typed in the URL, went to the "BUY" button, went to "cameras" then "35mm film P&S". And there it was, first item on the list. And actually, it shows up a few more times throughout the list. Some powerful work.

FUNNY that it says "be sure the URL says . . . " but, clearly it does not. They assume most people are clumsy. Many are.

Thanks guys for the heads-up, another scary scam I wasn't aware of.

Makes me wonder about the relative safety of the Paypal link that is in most Ebay listings nowadays, got to be more careful to watch the URL when you go to pay.

Yikes.
