HU: Nikkor-S.C LTM Tokyo 5005xxxx

I'm looking for one, but this one was waaaay to cheap for me. I only buy expensive and sell cheap 😉

Btw, can you read from the serial number if the aperture ring turns "the right" way for LTM Nikkor-S.Cs (or H.C)?

All LTM 50 Nikkors (50/1.4 and 50/2) have the aperture turn the same Brbo. Numbers sit in place, with the widest aperture matching the infiinity focus mark, and to close down you turn the aperture ring to the right (seen from the top of the camera). Like this:

Not any different from, say, a 90mm Summicron v1.

Roland.

Thanks Roland!

I didn't know that there were Leica lenses with aperture rings that turned right to close down. I only saw LTM/M lenses from Canon/Leica/Zeiss/Konica etc. that you turned left to close down.

One more thing, are lenses like that (ebay item #161038963477) common? It looks completely unlike other Nikkor LTMs. Homemade conversion from Nikon S Mount to LTM?

Brbo, I think 161038963477 is a head of a late S-mount 50/1.4 put in a Jupiter-8 focus barrel in a home conversion.

My pleasure, Roland, glad to be of service! 🙂

Ari, the lens arrived and is clean - beautiful. I feel lucky.

Surprising Detail: it has some mechanical differences when compared to my NKT lens, namely screws in the lower focus barrel that I have only seen in photos of the 50/1.5 Nikkor. I assume these screws are used to adjust the RF/camera alignment from the outside, much like you can do with 35/2.5 and 28/3.5 LTM Nikkors.

Anyways, thanks again.

Good news, Roland -- a very lucky purchase!

Would you say a bit more about these alignment adjustment screws on the 35/2.5 and 28/3.5? I wasn't aware of any such thing!

Hi Ari,

left is the "new" 5005, middle the NKT, and right the 2.8cm lens:

There are 3 grub screws on the barrel of the 2.8 lens. When these are loosened, you can adjust the RF cam (for infinity alignment). The 5005 lens has similar screws, also showing in pictures of the 50/1.5 lens (see for instance http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/nhs/50f15/50f15.htm), but missing with the NKT lens. Note that per Rotoloni, the NKT and 5005 lens should be optically and mechanically identical.

Just one of those details I guess ....

Roland.

Roland, this is interesting! Below are three of my LTM Nikkors: Left is a late 50/1.4 NKJ, middle is a late 50/2 NKJ and right is an early 50/2 NKJ. Note that the late, black-rim lenses have similarly placed screws - 3 evenly spaced around the lower barrel (albeit just above the focus distance scale) - while the earlier lens (SN 623701) does not. (My 50/3.5 rigid, not pictured, also has the 3 screws on the lower focusing barrel.)

My three late, black LTM Nikkor long lenses, shown below, also have 3 evenly spaced screws on the lower barrel -- in the lowest black knurling on the 85/2 and 105/2.5, and in the silver portion on the 135/3.5. (I'm guessing slightly on the 135/3.5, since the removable tripod mount covers the 3rd screw position on that lens.)

Could it be that Nikon brought back these adjustments toward the end of their production of the LTM Nikkor lenses?

Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread, but that black 85 is nice! 🙂 Do you know offhand how much lighter it is than the chrome version, which is ~525grams?
