They had one like it for 99 BP a few weeks ago. This one may sell for $500.

This eBay seller has had a number of these for sale over the years. This lens was made by YK Optical and sold under a number of different brand names, Kobalux and Pasoptik included. I bought one of these black (type 3) lenses from jiri_e a couple of years ago - he is a reliable guy to deal with. It is a beautiful and well-made lens that can make really great images. If I was just THIS MUCH more into shooting at 21mm (he holds his thumb and forefinger together) I would not have sold mine recently.

Jiri IS a fine person to deal with, but I wonder if this lens is that much better than the CV 21?

I bought John's lens and when I did, I had CV21 and Kobalux 21 second version (silver/chrome).

Is this lens much better than CV? well depends. It's faster. To me thats important. It's sharp - both CV and Avenon are. Less distortion - again - to me important. But what really won me over it the signature. CV is a "plain" lens with high contrast. This lens has a signature that is similar to Leica SA 21/3.4. Plus it's faster and doesnt go as deep in camera, so can be used on cameras with built-in meter no problem.

So, like I said - depends on what you need. If you want cheap and good with high contrast in a small size - CV 21 is a one to get. If you want vintage signature - get SA, but if you need faster and sharper - Avenon is the one. And of course Zeiss ZM for the super sharp and modern signature.

Price - if Raid is right - it will be a steal at $500. Being a last version - i.e. - black, with more blades and closer min focus, plus considering limited production of it - its a collectors item - this is more of a $1000 lens. There is a second version on ebay as well at $950. This lens is rarer.

I barely missed getting a very clean Avenon 21mm for 99 Pounds three weeks ago. It was the black version. The seller told me that there was another buyer who emailed them earlier than me.

Yes, I missed it. The seller sent me a refund a week later, minus currency exchange fees by Paypal. I was not a happy dude ... for a while. :bang:😀
