Heads up for a nice Rolleiflex f2.8C Xenotar.
I have nothing to do with this seller.

Looks like a very clean copy. Bay iii Shade, Chrome cap, Red filter.... all together could be a good deal.
With it's Round aperture the 2.8C has become quite a desired model.
It's been a while since I've seen a clean one on eBay even close to this price (not showing hard use).
I was just looking for a Bay iii shade when I saw this:

haha... I've been watching that all day... I can't justify a 4th Rolleiflex.
I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet...

Oh no... I have more than enough 🙂
I posted it for one of our members.
I hope it works out nicely for you!
Oceanside will have the plain Button.
I've never had any issues with the 35mm counter button on a camera.
It's good for potential future user should you sell it although, that camera really does look like a spotless long term keeper.
Best!

You take the next one 🙂
Now I have to figure out how to ditch the Rolleikin counter/source a normal replacement.

Why? It's original and should be there. It was sold with it. With 120-film it works like a normal spool knob.

I would rather find a spare plastic lock for the flash contact. It's missing.

Thanks Range-rover, definitely my intention. My TLRs take me for a walk every weekend and some weeknights if I've been good.

@JPD - I didn't realise (until I hastily read the manual), that they were sold with the Rolleikin knob attached. I'd always assumed (wrongly as it turns out) that owners had a play with attaching the Rolleikin and the original spool knob became disassociated from the camera.

If it should be there, it can stay there for now, I'll try it out for size.

Seeing how the screen is, and the glass, will determine how good a deal I really got. You always roll the dice with a 1950s camera. I promise to look after this one whilst its with me fwiw.

I'm sorry to re-bump this thread for anyone clicking hoping to nab another special little TLR. I'm sure your next/first Rollei is out there somewhere waiting for you.

Some Rolleikin sets did come with the counter knob for use on the cameras that didn't have it from the factory. It's a bit of a jungle with all the models and types within the model series. 🙂

It came originally with the fine-grained groundglass. The focus should "snap" nicely on it. But it can be a little dark in the corners. The screen can of course be changed to a new fresnel one, but it's advisable that you don't throw the old one away if you do that. If you try to sell the camera, many buyers would want the original screen.

The mirror is probably good. They changed the coating in the early 1950's. Earlier ones were silvered with a lacquer protection that could go dark and flake off.

It's a good bump, that probably will make one ot two crave for a nice Rollei. Plus we added useful information. 😉

another find

another find

This one for $400 has been CLA'd by Mark Hansen.
Check out the listing photos for his repair notes.
Seems like a really nice deal for a Ready Rollei (if you like the red cover) 😛

(I don't know this seller or have anything to do with it so please, do your do diligence)

^ Since sold. Wasn't me that time!

Received the 2.8C today. Looks great, exactly as described. No surprise dents or anything, everything is smooth to turn.
Will give it a bit of a clean tonight and put a test roll through.

I'll definitely also be taking a dedicated 30 minutes to figure out the more intricate hood arrangement (previously only used an F model with the detachable hood.)

The Rollekin knob does get in the way of my thumb when focussing. Since it serves no purpose, I'll definitely investigate replacing it with the normal one, assuming it's an easy swop.

And I'll also do a bit of research on what these 'feet' are. The focus scale seems to be arranged using it.

Hey that's good to hear it's working out.
Curious about the hood. What's different about it. Looks like a Rollei outer bayonet hood. (?)

I picked up my freshly Overhauled 2.8D on tuesday.
New Mamiya screen cut to fit and all culminated.
It's like having a new factory fresh camera 😀
I'm a believer in going for a true full overhaul vs. a CLA.

Here is what it looked like a week ago. The shutter had yet to be broken down.

After years of ignoring it I finally got my 2.8D working this week. Some total numptys had done a number on it. Just have to check the taking lens focus calibration and I can load a film. The viewing lens is good at infinity (no small feat considering the state of it when it arrived), so I’m feeling lucky. My 2.8C Xenotar will be looking for a new home. I’ll miss it but the D was always the one I really wanted, and for all its faults it’s actually pretty tidy. I’d post some pictures of some of the problems it had when it arrived in ostensibly good working condition from a big shop in New York, but I don’t want to give any of my fellow Rollei lovers here sleepless nights, as they’d definitely induce nightmares...

I think this is the point, they are always better to own if they have never been 'hacked' by amateurs along the way. Always better to have a straight, unfettered and never-molested one, even if it comes in a non-working condition at first. Then once you get that camera CLA'd or fully rebuilt, it's always gonna be a better rig.

I personally need a Rolleiflex intervention this year. I always tell myself my two is the perfect number (always a safe bet to have two identical bodies for film shooters with any camera, right?) but there have been some of the nicest ones I have ever seen in my life for sale in Bangkok and I just couldn't say no. I am not just talking pretty to look at but also mechanically bang on, real tip-top shape inside out. Total count now = 5, the wife still thinks 2!

Honestly though, it's just hard to ever see acquiring minty Rolleiflexes as a bad idea!

In my defence, I did manage not to buy a fairly nice Rolleiwide this month.

Just acquired a mint 3.5f Planar with the six element lens, it is my first ever Rolleiflex with an upgraded screen. It has the Mamiya screen mod that you mention here (and is commonly discussed all over the net as a good upgrade). I must say, it is nice and a lot brighter. I think in general however, I am still okay with the stock factory ground glass, even on the dimmer earlier models. Maybe it's just because I live in a very bright country but I just don't see it as quite the 'essential' upgrade that everybody seems to say it is. I'm sure you'll probably like it though, will be nice to have such an extensively overhauled 'fresh' one in your hands! Enjoy🙂
