HU: RFs and film SLRs spotted in Manhattan!

We have 142 bars and no churches.

Wayne

Edit: I just counted them, and in reality we have 55 churches and 20 bars and one person that shoots with rangefinder film cameras.

Hey, Bill, I like a game of pool now and then, and I do got me a two-piece pool cue (cue Jim Croce tune...). No River City lout, I.🙂

Yes, film shooters crawl all about Gotham. But if you think Manhattan's snap-happy, check it out over here in Brooklyn. I'd say the bulk of RF hipsters in town are largely on the Greenpoint-Park Slope axis (okay, it's not an axis...we're miles apart, but humor me). I keep walking into these guys (and gals, thankfully) slinging Leica/CV/Konica (no old Leicas or Canons though, which I find strange). I know half a dozen of them already.

All part of what makes city life tolerable, if not outright fun.

Yes.

OK, I lied. We have 141 churches. I guess we lost one in the last year.

And Yahoo Yellow Pages lists two bars. But one is a sub shop - no booze. Mislisted. The other is outside city limits, but inside the mailing address. No bars.

I'm not joking. This is the south.

Sadly.

I just *live* in Podunk. I'm quite familiar with Queens, Brooklyn, even The Bronx. I take the train to NYC when I need a kult-cha fix. Some folks don't like it that I visit their town.

gotta ckeck in on this one... small 'burb 30 miles east of LA 17 churches  1 bar 😱 in a bowling alley. of course most restaraunts have booze 😀

We went to Mt Vernon for Easter. Lots of Tourist; and locals. Most had cameras. Lots of digitals; lots of single-use film cameras; enough film SLR's to be noticed; I was the only one with an RF and the only one shooting by windowlight in the Mt Vernon Inn.

I remember Fort Benning, Fort Knox and Fort Rilley...

I would never willingly go back to the south except as a tourist with many dollars in my pocket. The (so called) 3rd world is more plesant a place to live.

My father-in-law grew up in a company town in Alabama. His father was paid in script...

Actually, the other day too (I think it was Tuesday) I was meeting the same friend for lunch.

We have this rendevous thing where if I see him coming up Lex toward the corner of 50th and he's sees me and the "light is right" we signal each other to cross the avenue.

So, high-signed as it were, I went across and as I passed by one tourist I espied a RF - he was going the opposite direction and it was in the middle of the Avenue so I didn't pursue him to check out the gear.

But, all in all, b/w the RFs and the older SLRs, I think some film gear is re-emerging.

Then again, maybe I'm just being more observant. And no getting around it - for the mass of shooters out there - it is now a digi world.

On the other hand, I know the mayor. Well, I knew the mayor of NYC too, but I mean I see our mayor a lot and stop and chit-chat. He lights the town Christmas tree too, but there are about 150 people there and a bad high school band. And we have a Veteran's Day celebration that would knock your socks off. And a little train that gives kids rides around in the park - run by the city. A baseball stadium with minor league players, stadium a restored 1930's masterpiece. A 3.1 mile drive to work. And I-95 straight to NYC if I feel I must - or the train.

Yeah, no bars. But I can mix my own Jack and Coke, open my own beer. I'm in heaven.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

On the other hand, (big snip)

Far as it goes, I understand. But, overall, I think I'll invoke "agree to disagree" as it would be too easy to get beyond what is appropriate here.

Thanks for everything you bring here.
