HU - Sigma US finally started sale on Merrill series

oh! what should i do...

I think the dp3 is an awesome camera for shooting products laong with portraits and street shots...but the quattro tempts me!

I´ll think about it...but i guess i won´t decide much :D

Hmmm.. I wonder if Keith is going to pick up a dp1m at that price :p.. I'm currently saving for the Quattro myself.

I'm deep into this system and loving it. In the past two weeks I've picked up all three of the cameras on the used market and averaged $500 each including extra batteries, chargers, brackets, cases and hoods. They were all US imports and all less than a year old and in EXC+++ condition.
I'm going to watch the Quattro pretty closely and rely on you guys for advice. The only thing that bugs me right off the bat is that they changed the battery.

$1289.00 for the SD1M at Kennedy's ... bloody hell! Unfortunately you can't seem to get SA mount lenses here in OZ.

I paid just under $1800.00 for mine ... oh well, 'c'est la vie!' LOL :D

I thought about it Gary ... but I have the same perspective with the wide end of the 18-35 Art Zoom I just bought recently.

Can I ask about warranties? I was very careful to only buy the US models on the used market even though I don't think any of them could have been covered if I have a problem. Was this necessary? Is there any difference in the cameras themselves as far as menus and languages are concerned. I was a photo dealer in the US for 33 years and am well aware of grey market cameras and US importers reluctance to repair them but is this an issue with Sigma?

I would venture to guess that The dp Merrill based cameras are too new to get a good feel on Sigma warantee service. There are members that own the early dp cameras which had the issue of the ribbon cable failing over time in the retractable lens assembly maybe able to comment or any of the SD series.

Sigma piss off a lot of mom & pop camera dealers when they came out w/ the initial SD1 priced as if was a Leica. They left them holding the bag on that one. It appears to me that they have learned their lesson..

With the dropping prices i finally decided to pick up a DP2M, I think more out of curiosity than anything else. It should be interesting to see how it fits into my photography. Believe it or not, the only thing that concerns me right now is whether or not I can do any close up work with it. It is not a deal breaker but I do enjoy being able to get close once in a while.

Well i bought my Merrill from Mr Noriaki of 'Matsuiyastore'
Great Service, Speedy Delivery from Japan
The Camera's are under warranty but can only be serviced in Japan

I had a problem with my DP2M, the lcd screen and shutter would freeze up sometimes so I contacted Mr Noriaki
.sent it back , no problems with that, they sent it to Sigma and Mr Noriaki decided to send me a brand new camera
Though this time I did the DP1M...;)

Excellent Service !

They sell a close up lens for the dp2m.. Basically a plus mag filter designed specifically for it called aml-2. Screws on the front of the lens.

The only dp Merrill w/ true macro capability is the dp3m. 75fov f2.8 macro.

Good luck
