HU : Those looking for a potentially cheaper M8, someone selling his used M8 soon...

Don't bet on a lower price. My guess is it will bring list + . Back when the Nikon D1x came out i placed my order with Roberts Imaging and then again with my local dealer. As a NPS member we gor first priority on new equipment. I thought the local dealer would never get the camera and I would cancel one after which ever dealer got the first. To my surprise both came the same day!!!!! I kept one and sold one on ebay for a cool 1K over list. This might be the case with this guy.

A few years earlier i purchased one of my Rollei SL66's from a local guy that trades cameras ever few weeks. He shot exactly two rolls through the Rollei and deceided to sell. He does this over and over and even buys the same equipment over again. In that case I got a really good price and used the camera for years.

I don't understand why some people do this but they do.

I don't mean this to tell someone else what to do, but considering the number of widespread performance issues affecting all the M8s, I don't think it would be an abuse of a dealer's return policy to send the camera back for a refund. I would never consider doing that just because I felt like it, but if I had just bought an M8 it would definitely be going back to the dealer. Beside losing the eBay (and maybe also paypal) fees, I couldn't in good conscience sell it to someone else, at least without disclosing to them the problem issues, since I am aware of them.

I didn't mean to start any ruckus with my first post.

The fact is, I've been reading RFF a long time and simply made an observation.

I'm a long time shooter and collector of rare photographica and have been shooting with the RD-1 for over a year. To me, it's the best camera I've ever owned.

I love using rare old glass on a modern digital body. I'll get an M8 soon, but I never buy the first production run of a digital camera if I can help it.

Is anyone here aware of the HUGE number of mainland China websites devoted to adapting and shooting old lenses on modern cameras? It's astonishing.

The camera hobby is getting very big in China with the new wave of disposable income.

REALLY nice articles and photos posted.

I read them with Google site translator.

If there's any interest I'll post some links.

here's a story

here's a story

i'm not sure how relevant this is, but it seems similar...

a long long time ago, I had this friend who worked at a video rental store. A guy would come in and rent a bunch of adult videos, then come back in an hour or two, return them, and rent a bunch more. It freaked everyone out as he couldn't possibly be watching them all...

I am trying VERY hard to find the relevance here, but I just can't. Nice story though!:)

Well, why don't you explain your reasoning?

You state in your eBay descriptions it's because it's "what you do".

No flame intended. Why do you buy so many things, rebox them and dump them within a couple of days? Disappointed? Just want to look at them and get rid of them?

From your eBay history, I see you do this often AT A LOSS.

You have to admit, it's puzzling behavior. Is there a rationale?

Entertainment. I have tried to explain to others but unless you are at the same financial level, I always come across as and am accused of being rich and stupid. You must remember that $10k is alot to most but little to a few.

I do not ask anyone to understand my behavior and I offer or owe no explanation except about the item I am selling. I dare say, from looking at my feedback, few, very few have been unhappy with what I sell.

Does this all bother you? If so, I have explained why in the above.

Thanks very much. I have received about 90 emails and there are currently over 80 people "watching" these two items, according to My Ebay. Things will really get interesting when I list the other two lenses and M8 this PM

Good luck with your auction, Greg. When I saw the shots you put on the net I thought you had finally found your photographic holy grail. But I see the search continues....:):):)

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I have an inate curiousity about human behavior. If this entertains you, that's fine with me.

Here are some links to Chinese site (with google translations). Remove the google bit in the address if you read Chinese. I have many more links, will do a proper post later.

Maybe. I'm usually game for buying on e-bay (and even paying a premium) but in this case, given the possiblity that the camera will need warranty work, I'd rather have a passport warranty and a relationship with a dealer who will sort things out with me. For that I'll wait 3 more weeks.

I would out of courtesy and respect for the buyer handle any warranty issues for the full two years the camera is covered. That would also include any of the 4 lenses as well. My eBay reputation stands for itself.

The collection #1 is interesting

The Gallery #3 are lots of photos

The above two parts aren't too shabby either. The photos are good. Pretty girls.

Japanese website (google translated) devoted to photos with older lenses:

I have links to about 30 such Chinese sites.

If the links are to a particular brand, put them in the relevant forum. If not use the general one. ;)
