Humorous Photos

I am sure folks here have a few funny shots . I'll start with 3 that are not mine and will come back with some that I took.

The ones below are not copyrighted and freely distributed (as far as I know)....They made me laugh big time!!! The last one with a wolf is genius.

I didn't shoot this photo with the intent of being humorous, but a lot of people have laughed when they see it. So be it!

I shot it during a dance photography workshop with Lois Greenfield in the year 2000, using a Contax G2 and 90mm Sonnar lens. All I was trying to do was contrast the musclebound strength of the guy with the extreme delicacy of the girl. I suppose it's this contrast plus the guy's somewhat nervous expression that amuse people.

I'm a big fan of humor in photography, but it seems to be quite difficult to do, as there isn't a lot of it that's really naturalistic to the medium. For me, the most consistent practitioner of it is Elliot Erwitt, and in his case what makes it work is that the humor isn't overt. Rather, his images contain contrasts that are so peculiar, yet so ordinary and natural, that the mind's reaction is delighted amusement at the dilemma they create.

I'm not saying my picture is in the same league, but I'd like to think the same mechanism is at work.

Here is one of my boys learning the fine art of tearing a worm to put on his hook, obviously the adventure was not appetizing to him:

Err...about that shot...

Err...about that shot...

The shots so far are really funny...gave me quite the giggles!

My image is not, in itself, humorous at first glance. It's the story of it that presents the humor. I recently posted this at a different board but it seems appropriate here. (Note: This was not taken with my rangefinder.)

While shooting at a trade show I came across a nice scene of golden, late afternoon sun ("magic hour") filtering into an enormous glass wall. I stopped and composed the ad-hoc shot, including a seated woman with a baby stroller to add a sense of scale to the scene. Ah, pretty, eh

As I walked away my wife, who was with me at the time, tugged my arm (a gesture that always foreshadows bad news) and whispered to me, "That woman was breast feeding her baby."

Instant wet red face moment. I slinked away looking for a hole into which I might fit. Images of witnesses whispering "Pervert!" to each other flashed before my eyes.

Dang!

When I observed this gentleman looking in all the wrong places for the fish, I made a series of exposures using three different cameras. This one was from the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s on Kodak Royal Gold 100 film. He asked me a number of times if I would like him to move out of the pond, but never did ask if I could see where the fish were.

No doubt the woman herself would not have minded! Women who breast-feed in public feel that it is an ordinary, natural activity. What they object to is people who think there is something peculiar or "perverted" about it. (I know this because I have a friend who is a "breast-feeding militant.")

In the state where I live, a legislator has just proposed a law that would safeguard the right of women to breast-feed wherever they wish. So you could tell your wife that your picture was simply a way of standing up for women's rights...

Terrific shot. Answer: Both. Ya gotta look at such a scene more like the animal received his/her own version of a Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame.

neat shots, everyone! Here's mine.

1. "Welcome to Louisiana"
2. "French Quarter Chihuahua"

Ha-Ha 🙂 , st3ph3nm. It's not my kitchen though!

I've heard about nawlins c-roaches. From what I've heard, this is not that much of an exaggeration. Out of curiosity, what's going on in this, Natalia? Are the dishes on the stove in a display case? (sorry if this question breaks the flow of the thread)
