Hurricane Katrina

I have to say that I am glad I moved west in August of 2004. Had it been this summer I would have been sunk by the fuel prices. We drove 3 cars across in 6 days.

What I find astounding is that there are people attempting travel by foot from Louisiana to Texas. I'm hoping our friends on the forum made their way to east Texas ahead of the storm.

Statement made by mayor of New Orleans, about thousands of dead floating around the city, is really depressing. And they knew about imminent strike many days before disaster 😕 And all those poor people in SuperDome... State should better (timely) protect their citizens !

I hope all RFF members from stricken areas are safe and OK.

Well, sure, gasoline has always been expensive in Europe. But you guys are so small! I can put six or seven of your countries in the back of my SUV and drive around with you. The other day, I found Hungary in my back pocket when I put my clothes away - forgot to take it out when I was done playing with it. So what if gas is $6.50 per gallon in the EU? It takes about 20 minutes to drive across the whole continent anyway.

GRIN!

Best Regards,

I'm sure the distance show us so small...
Look at a plane in the sky how small it is.

Hopefully Natalia is well somewhere, but from what I've read in the news we will have to wait some time until we hear anything.

I have clicked onto Natalia's Podcast sight which she had been keeping up to date. The last entry is from last Thursday, 8/25. Another one of her sites comes up with an error code, I am thinking the server has been wiped out.

Fingers are crossed in hopes that she and her family are well and that she will eventually check back in when she can.

Natalie's last post here was on 8/26, before the storm. I'm sure she will check in as soon as possible.

My Nephew, wife, and their infant son got to my Sister's house in Georgia before the storm hit. He is a student in New Orleans.

They turned on internet here in Houma!!!!!! Thanks, guys, for thinking of us. You don't know how much it means to us......

Hi Natalia,
best wishes for you and your family, I kinda know what you are going through at the moment (my family's house was badly flooded by the Danube River in 2001)- hope you are OK as much as possible under the circumstances!
