After reading several topics, it's still not clear to me which lens design both lenses have. I don't believe the optics are the same. Maizenberg's book described the I-10 (standard Fed lens) to have the same optics as the I-22. The lense diagram of the I-10 in his book looks much like the Leitz Elmar. http://zenit.istra.ru/archive/lenses/industar-22.html
Dr. Donau, shows the optics of the I-10 are Elmar like, and the one of the I-22 is Tessar like http://www.baierfoto.de/russobj/objektive/industar.html
Has anyone experienced differences? 🙂

I had noticed that my I-10 as supplied on my FED2a is significantly shorter than my I-22 or I-50. That said, the lens is badged as a FED-50, I am told that it is an Industar 10, but is clearly not the same as the 22 or 50. I haven't done enough work with these lenses to describe differences, except to say that the "50" gives a lovely vintage appearance to the test shots it's had.

Hmm, I meant the collapsible versions, but my pics show nothing different to yours, in that the I-10 is smaller than the I-22/I-50 and so can't be the same glass?

Here's a pic of mine. the smallest is the FED-50 (I-10???).

Dave....

Edit to say that the last pic shows the lenses in the locked extended position and to edit my spellin.....

How does the I-10 compare quality wise to the I-22. Im in the market for either of these if anyone is selling a decent one.

Thanks for all the photos guys. That is quite a difference I had not been aware of. I only have I.22s & I.50s.
...and so can't be the same glass?
Hmmmm. I know this has been discussed before, right? (Or am I having yet another "senior moment"?) Anyway, I'm going to knock this around a little. Be back later...

Hi Dave - I know we talked about this before, and I find it a very intriguing mystery, given that the I-22 is routinely (and clearly incorrectly) described as a clone of the I-10, with early examples made from FED parts. I had wondered if the lens was simply externally larger, with the glass held in the same place in relation to the film, but that does not seem possible in the light of these pictures. It would be particularly interesting if someone could compare an early "FED-Zorki" I-22 with a later version. I can't help wondering if the I-22 is a slightly longer focal length - perhaps the 52.3mm "Contax Standard" that Dante Stella talks about....

Cheers, Ian
