I just bought an I-22 rigid from Yuri and need a hood for it. It a 36mm push-on attachment. Yuri says they are impossible to find. Anybody got an idea as to what to do?
I guess I could get S.K. Grimes to make one out of Delrin, but the cost would be $60 plus.

check out Jay's Fed and Zorki Survival site.
he gives instruction on making your own hood.

I have a I-22 on the way. I was thinking about trying this:

1) get a 36mm push on plastic lens cap from B&H.
2) Then seeing if I can install an adapter ring into it nicely. I will measure but say something like a 28mm-43mm ring.
3) then get a 43mm screw in lens hood.
4) use the ring for filters etc as well.

I think I can make a clean hole for the adapter but I am not clear that glue will hold. Need to test. Also it is not clear that the cap will hold strongly enough. But I am entrigued enough to try.

Another do-it-yourself lens hood for I-22

Find a clamp on filter for a 5 cm Leica Elmar (I used a light yellow.) Cut the bottom from a plastic cup from Crytal Light brand lemonade mix with a hobby knife.

Spray paint the outside of the "cup" a pleasing 'hammer finish' silver, and spray the inside flat black.

After it dries, slip the cup on the filter and mount it to your camera. I've been going to glue the two togeather, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Works fine so far, but I do take it off when I'm not actually shooting.

My original plan was to knock out the fungied (sp?) glass filter and just use the mount, but ithe glass cleaned up nicely.

It's worth looking on Ebay. I bought a couple without difficulty.

If you're going the Leica route, why not try to find the 36mm clamp FISON hood for the 50mm Elmar - mine was $2 2 years ago
