So,
I had a pretty big backlog I was going to blast through and in a moment of confusion I accidentaly took a sip of my D-76 (stock), thinking it was water (or something...). I immediately spat it out, back into graduate beaker it was in. Apart from the fact that wasn't a very healthy move (I did thoroughly wash my mouth and didn't swallow anything), could I still use the solution? Just wondering.

He said he spit it back into the beaker containing the D-76.
I think the amount of saliva is negligible so think you can still use it.

Ok. That's kinda what I though, but I figured there might be some stuff in my saliva that messes up the working solution somehow. I know nothing about chemistry, hence my question.

Maybe it would be even better!
I am a chemist, and my "scientific" opinion is that it should work just fine (unless you had something else in your mouth, like sugar or tobacco.)

Might as well ask, "what did the D-76 taste like?"

That's good enough for me. Expect photo's with perfect contrast, extreme latitude, tiny grain, beautiful shadow detail and luscious tonality soon.

It was salty. Like, very salty. Sea-water salty. I was very surprised. I always thought it would taste like laundry detergent.

A true gentleman wouldn't have made a post on the web about it and save his dignity.

Second chemist confirmation: expect great results
Second chemist confirmation: expect great results
Go ahead, I'm a card carrying chemist as well. I'd expect stunning results, consistent with your considerable talent. Since the only thing in your saliva is a bit of protein (amylase, sundry bacteria) it's not that much different from the gelatin emulsion.
Cheers,

Saliva does contain proteinolytic enzymes, which might dissolve gelatin in the long run, but I doubt that eight minutes at a whopping high pH and a mere 20°C will cause any damage. But it might be wise to avoid spitting into the colour processor rinse tank...

If OP drinks the rest of the D-76, his kidneys will process out the spit -- the resulting fluid will be a one shot developer/stop bath combo that will yield greater highlight detail and superior Dmax. Ask a stupid question get a stupid answer

Bummer. I was kinda hoping it might make an impromptu substitute for instant coffee.

If the OP included a good photo or anything related to photography it would be palatable. Some members have posted threads regarding where did so and so (members who added good content) go, and then speculated as to why they're not on RFF of late. Well the "I spit in my D-76" is what they call a jump the shark moment. But whatever. What do I know? I've made my share of jump the shark posts.

I think you need to patent this idea. Instant Caffenol.

Probably okay- my dad remembers fishing roaches out of his developer back in the day in hong kong

Yes D-76 Mixed 2 to 1 with fresh squeezed orange juice helps the saltiness. Sweet and salty is a good combo

I drank some fixer once. But I am still broken. What's up with that?
