i am done!

I keep saying this as well, not that I doubt your resolve Joe. It took me many attempts to stop smoking and it was very hard to do, now in my fourth year smoke free. 🙂

I tried to stem the GAS leak and I recon stopping smoking was easier. Good luck Joe... and Frank S 😉

You wouldn't believe how many times I too have sworn off eBay.
Deleted all my bookmarked searches and everything.
Enough said. Time to go check eBay...

"Excelsior, you fathead!"

Joe,

If you are really serious e-mail me your wish list, then delete all electronic copies you have and shred all written copies as well.

Bet ya can't....

Joe, do you have half cases for all three cameras?

Joe, your really serious. Didn't know the beloved Canon Ps had all gone. Always had you pegged as a Canon man. Looks like I was wrong ...... (yet) again! 🙂

I must say that the thought of the ZM 28 is tempting.... no, non, nein... must resist, I need a 135 first... nooooo!

🙂 😉

Joe,

It seems as if you have found the cure. Now bottle it, sell it and use the proceeds for....
never mind, lol.

OK, Joe and Frank have got me thinking (and I mean this question in all seriousness) - how does one know when they are done? Most of us probably have enough gear to take photographs in virtually any situation in which we could possibly find ourselves. I know that I do. I have my M4 with 35 'cron, 50 'cron, 90 tele-elmarit, and 135 elmarit. I also have a full slr kit with lenses spanning from 28-210. And yet, I still lust after a 21mm super-angulon. I also know that I would like to venture into medium format sometime. And I have a growing desire to try out some of these fsu cameras and lenses that so many of you write about so fondly.

Now most of us here clearly enjoy buying, selling, hunting for, and swapping gear. And I suppose that, for many, that enjoyment is reason enough never to say those three little words ("I am done"). But Joe has given a shooter's reason for being done (3 full kits to suit any mood). So, I put the question out to all of you: How do you know when that time has arrived?

Dunno.

For me, it's been a process of elimination: I didn't shoot any cameras for a long while and since I started photographing again, I've been trying lots of different gear. I'll use something for a while and see if it works for me. If it does, it stays and if it doesn't, I get rid of it.
And, frankly, I like the process as much as the results.

joe,
Congrats! Nothing but positive thinking from me for ya.(Besides, now maybe I'll start looking into Canon Ps--I figure the artificial price rise is just about over...)

For me it was a learning process with a new (to me) and slightly arcane camera system (Leica) that took over two years. I had to learn which body types I liked and which lenses because there are so many differences, many quite subtle.

But I think I am done with buying camera/lens gear because I now have three modern Leica bodies and a base set of lenses at 24, 35, 50 and 90mm focal lengths. I also have less-used but still extremely useful 15 and 135mm lenses, and a high quality tripod/ballhead combo. I have everything I could conceivably need for the kind of shooting I do.

The only stuff left to get is darkroom enlarging and wet printing gear. I don't think that counts... 😉

I did like shutterflower and maxed out accounts, so no more buying for me. The Minolta 7s has a roll of APX100 in it that is taking forever to shoot because it just doesn't seem to be that comfortable to me. Huh. Spose I should sell that, and maybe some other stuff. I will swear of (I promise!) once I have a complete Olympus Ace outfit. How bad can that be? Propietary mount, only 4 different lenses ever made, only the hood(s) is(are) elusive (I think...), so if I can manage that kit, I'd have nowhere to go, right?

All the Canon P's ..... gone! Unbelieveable..
This shakes my faith in you Joe. I remember some line you wrote to the effect all the little guy needs is a good Canon P, some Canon glass and film!

I'm shedding a tear here. I'm not done yet tho I should be. However I still have a 'backalley Oly 35 RC' tuned up by the amazin' "G"

I'm not being a stickler here but darkroom stuff is that on or off the 'program' ?

not in my future. i sold my complete darkroom, including the magical fuji enlarging lenses to b.j. of this fine forum.

i shoot, scan and have a pro lab print and i'm very happy with that. my walls are covered with both my old wet prints and my pro lab prints and they all get equal billing and applause.
