slower (separate finders, knob winding)
more limited access to modern lenses.
focusing down only to 1m
This specific LTM set is quite expensive.
not wanting to kill your love. It IS a great looking combo...

It looks beautiful and is probably a lovely camera to use.
However, after owning many screw mount Leicas, I much prefer the M system for both practicality and usability.

Great eye candy, the IIIg has a much better finder than the other III series, no problem for me to look at 2 finders but better practice or better yet cut a template for film loading, it can be a hassle.

I know that M cameras are better. Probably I will never trade my M3 because I am in croatia and here is hard to find someone to trade. But one day I will buy IIIg...it is beautiful camera

Eh, personally I've always thought the IIIg looked just a little inelegant compared to the IIIf with self-timer. The larger viewfinder may be an improvement over that of its predecessors but it does ruin the lines of the top plate. But one day I will buy IIIg...it is beautiful camera

I have had Barnacks for years as many of the members on RFF. I also have an M2 and other more "modern" cameras and I always grab the Barnacks if I possible can. BTW I have a IIIa, IIIc K, IIIc and a IIIf. So, I understand how you feel and I never got over my love of these little jewels.

This will indeet be a nice 35 mm setup.
And I also enjoy to "work" (play
) with my barnack type cameras.
But if you use it pimary with a 35 mm lens (or any other lens than a 50 or 90 mm), I would also consider a IIIc or IIIf which to me have nicer lines and are not as expensive as a IIIg.

beautiful camera gbegonj. am having IIIg as well + Summarit 35, though older (f3.5) version than yours. underrated lens IMO. if only focus peep hole was bigger in Barnacks, would not even consider M-cameras

Well, the M series are still in production. OK in the digital version but, um, well...

Very nice looking combo. Wasn't the IIIG and M2 produced concurrently? At least for a short time.

You can still buy the M7 and MP brand new from Leica.

Yes Zuiko they were. One issue with IIIg's is parts........ since they were a low unit production item, sometimes its hard to find parts for repair.

I would anyhow take that lovely LTM Summaron (check whether its shortest focus distance is 1m), but I must admit I never was in love with a IIIg - being Leicas' anachronism.

Have you held this combo in your hand yet? That could seal the deal.

I like the look of the iiif more also, more complex

Hey, that's my IIIg/LTM Summaron combo. You copied it from Flickr no doubt, but it would've been nice if you had said so. Here's the link:

BTW, as much as I like the IIIg I concur with otheres here that the IIIc/IIIfs are the betterr lookers.
