I Am Mad About The Boy, But What's Next ?

I got my Fed 2 type G, from Oleg. I requested him to silence it, after reading here that he is able to silence it more than an original Leica.

He did it.

By FAR FAR FAR, Oleg's Fed leaves behind Mike Goldberg's M4 in terms of shutter noise. Since Mike is not touchy about shutter noise, never was, I can put this on writing without arising any bad feeling in him. (*)

Besides, the whole camera is butter as I never got. Optics clean to death. Take into account I am comparing Oleg's Fed against another previous good one from ebay.

Fine. Now what I do next with Oleg's capacity and the Leica screw mount Feds 2 ?

Old dwellers here know I am a staunch Kiev propagandist. I have the full system with 5 bodies and some dozen standard lenses, some of them sonnar quality.

To broad a bit the confussion I'll state the following. My RF needs are divided into three cathegories.
a) Daily back pack - well attended by two Canonets.

b) My "pro" shooting dedicated days, well attended by 2 black Electros under treatment by the G-man. These are my rf's to kill.

c) Slow pace shooting for fun and fiddling, home gatherings, family gatherings, bizarre days - the place of my Kievs.

Now what?
Kiev VS Fed was always an easy choice for me, given the fact that Oleg was excluded from the equation. And now ?

I quit.

Cheers,
Ruben

(*) Late update:
If to be more fair, it should be noted that I don't know when the last time was that Mike's M4 was CLA-ed, not to speak about what could happen if a Leica CLA, or at least a shutter silencing treatment was given by Oleg.

Ruben: "I Quit" sounds suspiciously like "I'm Done". We all know that is self-delusion.

Whats next....?

Why enter your images from both Fed and Kiev cameras in the FSU photo contest!
That's whats next! Have fun with your beautiful new Fed.

Best Wishes,
Charles

Earl, I meant something like perhaps I stop with photography and start fishing or anything...Or perhaps I declare within myself an unconditional moratorium on gear. I don't know. Rather than the Fed, I was curious about Oleg. And now the guy "tells me" yes I can give you whatever you dreamed and never achieved, plus a sample attached.

Charles, I am a bit reluctant about the term "contest" and alike. It is me.

Well two differences jump staight away to my eyes from my first Oleg's Fed hours.

It seems to me the viewfinder optics of the Kiev is of better quality a bit. Of course Fed answers with its diopter adjustment.

But the clue may be perhaps in the noise. All in all both THIS Fed and my Kievs are similar in noise low level, but with a significant, and perhaps meaningful difference. The kiev slow speeds, starting with 1/50 and downwards, although low noise are attention attracting ( bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz). On the higher speeds the Kievs produce a low sound uneasy to identify and a short one.

With the Feds in general the higher the speed, the louder the noise, including my good one. But at 1/30 this Fed type Oleg is practically inaudible at half a meter. Hmmm.

Take up fly fishing. It's nearly silent and you couldn't possibly have hundreds of different rods and reels to choose from.... right Flyfisher Tom?

Another distinguising feature I can identify is the collapsible lens, making it to fit my always wearing stomach pouch.

Here it is possible to argue that an RC or XA may be more ergonomic, but provided the Fed collapsible is of good quality, overall with a Fed in my pouch I will have more of a camera. This is just personal and quite controversial, so dont take offense.

I don't ALWAYS wear a camera, but I do always wear that pouch, so from now on...

"Now what? Kiev VS Fed..."
Take some photographs, then take some more, then take some more, then take some more! Go out and enjoy those silent shutters; get two packs so you can carry 'em both; shoot 'em til they get worn out and loud, send them back to Oleg to quieten down again and shoot some more. ;) Glad it's worked out well for you. Enjoy 'em!

BTW, the FSU Contest isn't exactly cut-throat competition for a Big.Bucks.Kit prize. It's more of a "share-your-3-favorite-FSU-born-photos* type of thing, put on by guys who are enjoying their old cameras like you do. It's fun.

Yep - my Fed from Oleg is as quiet and soft as my cla'd Leica Leica IIIc .
Unbelievable .
Now have to but that Kiev 4 Lightmeter or not !!!

I must admit you are pointing to the healthy gate, just out of my self imposed artificial vicious circle.

How long a reasonable person like you will be able to stay as such within RFF ?

Cheers, and Thanks, and take care as I will need you besides me a lot.

 poor guy, why do you want to silence him??

I think it's obvious the guy is a loose canon that talks entirely toooo much. He's been an RFF member since last July and already, he's racked up 10 posts.

A familiar problem to me also,as I can also add two MF. Folders to the mix.

Too many nice cameras and lenses, hence too many choices and far too many decisions to make:confused:

Where is the solution, where is the peace of mind to come from:)

Acceptance, Brian.
Or, Wallowing, maybe?
:D

Ruben, how much did Oleg charge you to CLA and silence your FED? Can he do the same to my FED 3b?
