I am off to meet with Professor Noam Chomsky!

Uhm, what? What does the opportunity to meet with a noted public intellectual have to do with family relationships? I guess you have some grudge agains the theory of universal grammar? Raid, glad you have the chance to meet Chomsky. I learned a little about his ideas as an anthro student, and I've been impressed with his humane and insightful stances on a number of political issues, even if his discourse is a little dry for my taste. Randy
being polite as I am not fond of his politics. Nonetheless Raid get some good shots.

Yes, agree with you, Raid, respect first of all, specially for all of his ideas and his overall political views, completely d'accord. However, Chomsky doesn't mince is words either when it comes to critique.. But I'm not going to give you an agenda for that meeting! 🙂

For equipment. Just bring the M with 35 lux and the P+S. His office is likely to be similar in size to mine (and probably yours too Raid). He works at a university! Anyway, a 50 might be too tight. I also like the digital M over film in this case; you don't know how dim/bright this office will be. The digital will give you the option to choose an appropriate ISO on the spot so that you can use a preferred aperture. This one simple characteristic of digital is the primary reason I'm no longer exclusively film.

Never met Noam personally. I would have liked that.

Raid, this is for sure an exciting opportunity. I'm sure you'll find it interesting and wait for your "report" here on RFF and maybe some comments when we'll meet in Italy next summer.

Grande!

What a wonderful opportunity for you Raid - to actually meet Mr. Chomsky - and what a wonderful opportunity for Noam to be introduced to your wife's grape leaves. I am envious of both!

He must be an OK dude since he said this. 😀

Obama, first of all, is running the biggest terrorist operation that exists, maybe in history.

I see it as a rare opportunity that has opened up for me to meet with a living legend. Thanks for all the input from you all.

Years ago, I heard him address an assembly at the University of Calgary. It's an alma mater of mine, and it wasn't a radical place. He spoke critically about the political situation - and received a standing ovation.

I will look forward to any pictures you post of your meeting.

It is amazing that nobody has so far criticized my camera equipment choice for the meeting.
Raid I would never criticise your choice of kit, I'm sure the nominated gear will do the job admirably. I'll simply mention that the square format suits portraiture (including environmental portraiture) well, and I've seen portraits that you've made with yours: so take your Rolleiflex, too. 🙂 Who knows, it might even be a conversation starter. 😉
Cheers,
Brett

Once I return home. He was asking me so many questions, and he was so baffled by my answers. Cannot discuss it. I will write a thread on it or just post here in one week.

I took two photos with the M9 and Summilux 35/1.4, and his assistant Bev used my IPhone for two photos of him and me. It was a great meeting for me. Bev gave more time than anyone else, she told me. I got 40 minutes.

I got a souvenir photo with Chonsky, and if there will be another meeting with him, I will do a better job. We got carried away in our discussion, and I did not realize how quickly time goes by, especially since we also were eating lunch at the same time. Professor Chonsky thanked me for the snapshot pic of him and I.
