I am really getting tired of Rumors

Everytime a rumor comes out everyone gets all giddy & excited. I just laugh at their post because I have learned that all their excitement will mainly turn into bashing the product once it's leaked our comes out.😉
Not EVERYONE. But you're right. Those who wet themselves over every new announcement are indeed those whose adoration most often turns to hatred as soon as there are any facts involved.

Perhaps Stephen should just drop the R and call it FF: Fantasy Forum. Or PPP, for Photo Phantasy Phorum.

Cheers,

R.

There is an upside to this. If the camera/lens/[insert object of desire here] has good points, once all the people who bought start selling, the price will plummet. Then we can pick up the things we want at prices we're prepared to pay.

Just keep reminding yourself: every silver lining has a cloud. 😀

If you are tired of people trying to sell you something, then the internet is not a good place to be...or at least that's how I feel.
I agree with this. Bring on the rumours and bring on change. Anything that stands still and doesn't look forward dies. The Nikon rumour only started a short while ago and it come to fruition very quickly. A nice looking beast as well, to big for me but for Nikon owners it could be Nirvana. I have no interest in buying one but I really enjoyed reading about it.

Companies have always tried to sell us something, I find the more odd thing is that people takes their side. A Nikon user will convince you that you need a Df (or whatever it's called) and a Sony fan will convince you that you need an A7(r). I find it most odd that people of forums seems to want to provide advertising for these companies for free.

I get worked up when someone is still available to fix my cameras. Or when a new film is introduced. On the digital front, I did get excited with the K-01 which has proven to be the only digital camera I will willingly carry around.

Have you noticed that this Rumors thing seems to have taken over the whole photog world? Well at least, I have been sucked into its vortex. I am really sick of it and vow to stop buying in. Also with all the really cool intros going on GAS has become a joke. Digital products seem to have a shelf life of about 6 months or so. Hey....where is my M3? Just ranting.😀

I agree with you, Akiva. The whole marketing circus around new releases is exhausting to listen to; sort of like listening to politicians in election season.

I miss the days when the only source of new gear news were the photo magazines which came at us monthly at most. The internet has sped things up to the point that information (speculation?) is changing by the hour! 🙁

Agree also with op. The rumor phenomenon spreading on web, look how nikonrumors crashed when it had some early pics of Df. Am usually pretty indifferent of these, but especially new ff-mirrorless from Sony made me follow the crowd and partake the speculation and discussions. Old phrase from pre-web days still works well today: best button on TV is the one where you can turn it off 🙂

Rumors are annoying at times for sure but they fade into nothing (I actually had to google the Leica Mini mentioned in this thread... I forgot what it was 😛 ).

But! This talk of name change is complete nonsense!

Get your M3, Akiva, and enjoy what you seem to be enjoying in photography. The marketing based rumors articles are for the people who are looking for new equipment. Digital equipment in photography is similar to computers; things change at a rapid rate.

I agree it's mainly for the people who are looking for new equipment. I started looking at rumors recently just to see how the market is since products are usually announced in roughly two distinct periods a year. I sold my 3 year old DSLR (first announced 5 years ago) at the tail end of this 2nd period. With the coast clear, I bought myself a new digital camera last night, and I don't see myself selling this one until it's old, worn, and gives out. It's the camera I've been waiting for.

Just for fun I configured a dream PC build a few weeks ago, but it's already dated. Market moves that fast.

The whole rumor thing was getting out of control. It seemed like every fifth thread was the latest rumor from one of those moronic sites.

Here is something NOT disappointing: I loved how the Nokton M rumor turned out to be a pale shadow of the amazing lens that materialized in its wake.

A point of clarification from the OP: I wasn't ranting at all about RFF. I was ranting about rumor only sites.

The artist may create an image with a particular idea in mind. And then to his or her surprise it resonates very strongly in an entirely different way.
