I've been trying to get a QL17 GIII for a while. I love my QL19 but it is heavy and big (I didn't realize just how much until I got a Canonet 28 which I prefer to carry around as it's almost purse sized).

I've been bidding on eBay on and off for QL17 GIII's but with no luck and prices going over $70 (I don't want to pay more than $50 if I can help it).

Anyway, this RF thing has been turning into an addition lately and to compensate myself for not getting the QL17 I decided to try to get a Yashica GSN (a heavy camera but with F/1.7) or an Olympus RC (small but only F/2.8) instead. So while I was bidding on one of these I threw in a $50 bid for a QL17 GIII said to be in working condition. I went out for a couple of hours with my kids and came back to find that I won! There was no last minute flurry of activity, nobody outbid me and I am soon to be the proud owner of yet another Canonet.

I am totally excited although I also won the Yashica so now I have 4 RFs and will need to give my paypal account a rest 😉
 
Congratulations on the QL17! If the camera is in good working order (including working light meter), then you did well. It's a terrific little camera, and the 40mm 1.7 lens in good condition is sharp. Thus, if you like the focal length, you may be able to hold off GAS for a Nokton 40 or a Rokkor/Summicron 40 ... for a while...😉
 
A great little camera. Hope it's in good shape so you can really enjoy it. Despite trying to give your paypal account a rest, as well as the usual desire to avoid using a flash, you might consider picking up one of the matching flash units for it. With the upcoming holidays you may wish to capture some family shots indoors where flash may be helpful. And the matching Canonet flash adjusts its output to match the camera settings so you can avoid that blown-out flash look.

Funny timing. I was just sorting thru the pile of items in my camera accessories drawer and I found a Canolite D flash unit for my long departed Canonet. It looks really nice and it has the original vinyl case. I put batteries in and it makes noise and the light lights up. It's yours for free if you want it. PM me. 🙂
 
You're gonna like the GIII! I've got 3 of the QL's now...a QL17, a QL17 GIII, and a QL25! They're ALL neat, and I seem to be falling nicely into the Canonet QL Fan Club! I've got other gear, but these vintage RF's are great. If there are minor repairs (seals, mostly) that need attention, there's lots of info around, mostly supplied by the great folks on this forum.

My QL17 G-III came with a dead flash & I've been looking everywhere for one.
