I can't close the lid on my Epson V500

I've just bought and unpacked an Epson V500 but I can’t get the lid to close completely. I've unlocked the little button on the inside of the lid but it will only close to about 45 degrees. I tried a bit of gentle pressure which didn’t work and I don’t want to push it too hard in case I break something.

Each hinge is a little leg that fits in to a slot on the bottom part of the scanner. If I take the lid off and move each leg on it’s own they only move through about 45 degrees. Does anyone else with a V500 know what I’m doing wrong?

I have no idea what you may be doing wrong. I just checked my V500 and there is a fairly hard stop at 45 degrees that takes a fair amount of force to over ride it to get the lid to close. Sorry, I can't tell you more.
