Yah, I ramble too. They say it's a sign of something. I have LR, from the olden days, on my iMac. It's an old version, but this is motivating me to play with it. Cool shot, you posted! Nice detail!
For those who don't want to patch Aperture, there is also the option of running a virtual machine with an older OS. Of course this works with any older app, not just Aperture. You'll need to download an older version of the OS and install it on the virtual machine.
I use this for an older version of Quickbooks accounting. This has saved me $$$$$ instead of moving to one of the Quickbooks software subscriptions.
To do this, there is VMWare Fusion which is now free for personal use:

This thread has convinced me that I should make an effort to actually learn RAW Power in order to fully evaluate it vs Lightroom Classic, rather than half-ass'edly poking about with it.
I'll start this morning by reading the entire Help...

Oh yes: There's also Affinity Photo, which is a Photoshop-like image editor. They make versions for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. One-time purchase, not subscription, and (for my purposes) as powerful as Photoshop (and a lot smaller). I've had it on my iPad Pro and Mac mini for some time, use it very occasionally when I need to do some small thing that's just beyond Lightroom Classic (or SnapSeed on the iPad).
Yes I use Affinity after ditching Photoshop. They will probably have some Black Friday deals soon...

I have a 2009 iMac 27 inch running every day in my office, but not for anything mission critical. Had to swap to Windows for that, at a certain point. I even have a 2005 MacBook Pro in the shed which can run the Nikon software for my Nikon Coolscan. But I never used it. It’s still there. I switched to VueScan. So I can handle legacy hardware and software. But I don’t like the idea of eventually painting myself into a corner. I much prefer recent OS, not too old computer, and current supported software. I liked Aperture, but just accepted I had to move on. I found it let me down one time, too long ago to specify what exactly. For a long time my 2011 X100 images were going straight to Apple’s Photo app, which is a little more sophisticated in the last ten years. My grown up camera digital files have been imported to Lightroom from M9-P purchase 2012. I like Lightroom, which is is a little more sophisticated in the last five years, and I need access to Photoshop much less lately because of that. Layers. A mental hurdle, forced on me for one project. It’s easy, and powerful.

I all but cried when they dumped Aperture, I had tried LR and found that Aperture was better for me. Once it was gone I grudgingly got the latest version of LR and took some classes in it and got to where I liked it better, more tools, better tools. I was feeling pretty good and then Adobe came out with the subscription plan. That really pissed me off, I'll be durned if I will pay for a program constantly. Well......... My wife got the subscription plan and low and behold there were ever more tools, better tools and it doesn't care if you get a newer computer or even if you switch from one platform to another, at least between Apple and Windows. You are always running the latest version but the one thing that might rain on the parade is that I'm not sure it will work on those really old (>5 year) machines.

I always keep my systems up to date ... both OS and apps ... as it is always better to keep moving foward from my perspective. I'll hold on updates when I'm in the middle of a project so as not to perturb the project, but that's rare nowadays.
RAW Power is interesting ... I'm enjoying learning it.
