I went to a local camera shop today to check out the Leica MP and M6.

My intention was to trade my 2 M3's and older glass toward the purchase but couldn't bring myself to part with either M3.. 😱

I've decided to buy the MP but will have to wait 3-4 weeks for my ESOP check to get here though since I don't have enough cash to make up the difference.. 😛

I'm having a hard time getting myself to sell two old Nikon Fs. There is something about the old cameras that makes it hard to part with them. While I love my M6, I would have not troubles trading it in for an MP. Part of that might be because my ex-wife got it for me as an anniversary gift. But then I feel the same way about the M4-P I got a few years before that. There is something about my F though. I sold the FTn finder but now have another on an Apollo body.

I’ve got two F2 in great shape now and the Fs are not getting any use. The M3, the F, they are cameras that made companies. They set new high water marks, standards for that others tried to follow. What makes it harder is that if I get an SP it would be nice to have an SLR that worked the exact same.

It seems there is another affliction like GAS called GKS (pronounced Gacks, Gadget Keeping Syndrome). It’s an opportunistic disease which strikes people who have been afflicted with multiple infections of GAS that have been satiated rather than cured. Perhaps we can get a reality TV show on HGTV (Home and Garden TV on US cable TV) to help us clean up the clutter?

I got my first M3 in 1966 and the second one in 1971. I didn't have any mis-givings when I sold my Nikon F's but parting with the Leicas is too hard so I'll keep them and try out the MP when I get it..

You will not part with them even after you get the MP. Thats how I ended up with 8 M cameras, two screw mounts Leicas, and 6 leica reflex cameras.

Very little has been sold unless there was a clear improvement and the older piece had no redeeming qualities like the chrome 65 elmar my son now has, I aquirred a black one.

I am even buying/fixing/using some vintage stuff like an uncoated 3.5 elmar. The two newest ones are the current 50 2.8 and 90 4.0 collapsibles.

The wife does not understand, but gave complaining years ago.

I may end up parting with one after I get the MP..
I've had the M3's for so long its hard to part with them.
