I was going to upload the photo of the guy at the table into the Solitude-themed salon... but I think I can do better (once the contax arrives 😀 )

So here's the quite successful short-roll from the Leica-Standard. Agfa APX400 at EI:1000 maybe?

The young guy in these photo's is my adopted brother, Tom. The last photo is following the theme for my experimental photo's (see my gallery for 2 others).

Scale Focus is growing on me. It's become a challenge to create clear *ahem* sharp photo's with this camera.

All photo's taken today, handheld/leaning on table, Industar-50 on Leica Standard at Z or 1/20, about f-5?. small levelling for contrast.

Small crit is appreciated, but be warned, both myself and Tom had by this point drank a pitcher of cocktails each! 😀

Next? He finished the pint and ordered another I think 😀

That's the one that was going to be my submission for the Solitude Salon. I can do better though 🙂

I'm frankly BLOWN AWAY by the second image in the series - the sepia-toned image with the man with the cigarette.

The specular highlights at the top and bottom act as a framing reference for the rest of the image, and helps preserve the linearity of the scattered light sources.

The introspection shown by this man is marvelous, and he is lost in thought as he scans the various bottles on the shelves. This epitomizes the feeling of isolation, even while he is surrounded by other patrons.

I also think that the horizontal lines accrued by the table top and the shelves, adds a balance to the image as a whole. The highlights and the overall brightness on the left side of the scene truly is anchored by the mass of the pillar on the right side.

Though the image is certainly set in recent times, there is an almost allegorical historical penchant in this rendering. I feel a sort of timelessness that contributes to the solitude.

Excellent, excellent shot. It just grabbed me.

Great pictures Ash!

I see that you give your Standard a good use!!
Also try street photography with it, first the scale focus thing is easier outside with f8 and I experienced that most people are too puzzled with figuring out what just happened to them than trying to object when shooting with the old standard 😉

Love that second image too!

Thafred, my gallery has a few street shots from the IIIc, but I haven't been bothered with street photography lately. Swindon is VERY boring 🙂

Thanks Brian, and nice to hear from you. Your old Leica is still chugging along well too, I'm thinking of saving for a rangefinder overhaul, so it's near-perfect 🙂
