After debating this for the longest time, looking at many many images online, having had Canon 50/1.2, and I still own Nokton 35/1.2 I was faced with the choice of - Noctilux, Hexanon 50/1.2 or a new Nokton 50/1.1. It took me a long time to make up my mind. Price of the Nokton is the best, yet there was several things about it that just kept me from pushing that "Buy It Now" button. Noctilux - well, I still hope that one day I'll at least try one and maybe even own one. But for, after having used almost every other M-Hexanon out there, it came down to Hex 50/1.2. Now I am a proud owner of this lens:
but this descision forces me to sell my other Hexanons (at least for now), so see my ad in RFF classifieds.

Hi Krosya,
Congrats! This is also a great lens! In my opinion, the most important thing is that you like the images from your gear. That's all that matters.
Whilst I haven't started playing with Hexanon lenses yet, hopefully I'll get around to it soon! The 50mm f/1.9 and f/2.4 really intrigues me.
Hope to see your pictures from this baby soon!
Cheers,

I'm having a weak moment. Unclean thoughts. Thinking. Selling Bubba. Thinking. Selling my Hexanon lenses.
Thanks for the reality wake up call.
I'll never own the 50/1.2 lens. The two I do own mounted on an M5 are just fine.
Enjoy!

良かったね!
Curious how much the 1.2 ran you. I saw the Ltd set sell for for $2375 and was sooo tempted. Just itchy for the 60.

... likes film again.
Very nice ! Both, the photos and the lens !
Hex 50/1.2 would be also my choice if I wouldn`t have the Noctilux. Hopefully you won`t miss your other M-Hexanon lenses to much ...

Of course Kroysa, I'm as jealous as hell. But good onya mate. As you know Hex lenses are terrific (I have five). I'm biding my time to pick up the dual. My idea of a perfect hiking lens. Love the photos too and a pretty girl for sure.

How's it handle on the R-D1? Does it block much of the 50mm frame lines? Do you use a hood with it?

I plan to do a little write up on this lens and post it here, as there is not that much info on this lens. But to answer your question - Hexanon 50/1.2 handles very good on every camera I have - Hexar RF, M5 and RD1s. - Its a well balanced lens. VF blockage - on Hexar and m5 - if you can picture 50mm framelines in 9 same sized sections - it takes up the right lower one of them. On RD1, I suppose because of high mag. VF - it almost doesnt protrude into 50mm frame at all. However, if you add the hood - original one, it makes things more intereting. Hood, while it has cutout is large and takes up a lot more of a 50mm frame. And with this hood it's almost not usable on RD1s. Why? Since RD1 is really a Bessa, it has a short VF base and little RF patch window is too close to the VF, so hood blocks nearly entire patch window on RD1, making it almost impossible to focus. This is not an issue with other cameras I have, since RF patch window on them is farther away.
In short - it's fine on RD1 without the hood. And if this lens is as good with flare as other Hexanons I used - I wouldnt worry too much about it and use it w/o the hood, which is what I have done so far.

Excellent lens - congratulations. Nice shots too.
Regarding the hood, I have never found flare to be a problem, so I never use it. I think you be fine skipping it or using a narrow width one like Heavystar's on the R-D1.
Enjoy it - please post more shots!

Another thing I noticed - as someone already pointed out, when compared to CV 35/1.2 - its about 1 stop faster. So, it's either CV is slower, but I dont think it is - it looks to be about 1.2, yet Hex might be actually faster than 1.2. Will have to do more tests.

Thanks for sharing the pic of Hex on M5. I am considering the lens for my M5 too. Now have to sell some gear first.
