I did it!

How about around 4 drops of CONCENTRATED dishwashing liquid for every 1L of water?

That about corresponds with my single drop of concentrated dishwashersoap on a Paterson tank, I guess. Mine's got a lemon smell to it, consequently very nice negatives😀 After stirring a bit, put the film out through the foam and squeegee right away. Next, hang to dry in a slightly humid, dust-free room: the shower!

Congrats on your first roll! I started a year ago, all B&W shots are truly my own now🙂

As punkromance said: A mixture of Newton rings and drying marks. Solutions: wetting agent and putting the negatives flat onto the scanning bed. Also be sure, that the negatives are completely dry.

And: Congratulations!

It is possible you are fixing too long. Nine minutes with fresh Kodak fixer is over kill. Usually you start out with five minutes, and extend the time either based on Kodak's recommendations, or based on clearing time of an undeveloped strip.

It's all been said:

There are scanning Newton rings and mineral traces too.

Instead of dishwashing liquid, use a wetting agent or photoflo for two minutes before the last washing: two or three drops are enough for a full tank...

And do a last washing with distilled water: it's the only way, because waters are too hard for final film washing. Your fixing and first washings times are OK: I fix for ten minutes.

Great start!

good points! I guess i fixed too long and did not wash enough.

Due to the negs being hard it was very difficult to get them flat in the scanner holder.

more to come later today!

There's stuff in dishwashing detergent -- perfumes, dyes, etc. -- that might make negatives unhappy. Anyone know?

To get big images displayed here, they first need to be hosted somewhere. Then you get the URL of the image and paste it between two URL tags.

You can get them by clicking on the little green and yellow icon that's displayed on either the "quick reply" or "advanced" pages. If you hover your mouse cursor over the icon, it will identify itself with "insert image".

A lot of people post on Flickr and then grab the URL. You can also post a thumbnail here and grab that URL. I haven't done that recently, but I believe it's displayed somewhere in the process.

Thanks for the replies.

I have the kodak hypo clearing agent. Says to rinse 30 seconds with tap water, 2 minutes with the hypo clearing agent and then 5 minutes of tap water rinse to finish.

I will try that along with less fixer time tonight and psot results.

progress!

I did as above:
5 minutes of fixer...not 10 as before, and used the hypo cleaner. Overall much better results. The distilled water also helped. I think the water issue is more or less fixed but I need to tweak the process.

I still have slightly hard negatives. Once fully dry they curl a bit and are dificult to get into the scanner trey. On these 2 rolls I reduced the fixer by 50% and the "hard" issue was much better but still too much. SHould I try to use less fixer time?

This is like science mixed with bones and a grass skirt 🙂
