A close by dealer offered a demo M9, 1 year warranty, at a fantastic price.
I politely said "not this time".
Not sure whether that was the right decision.
Maybe I passed up a bargain.

I suppose it depends on a price. If nothing else, assuming that price was that good, you could re-sell it and make a nice little profit.

"...resell and make a profit...." is a trap that I don't want to fall into any more.

Why are you not sure you made the right decision in not buying an M9 at a fanastic price? Mind you, that is a lot better than having buyers remorse after getting a big ticket item.

1 year warranty isn't enough for a camera like the M9. When it's out of warranty, the value decreases substantially. Better to buy a new one, unless the price is much less.

For me, for example, an M9 is worth only as much as a lens alignment testing kit - I dobt it would be more than a few hundred dollsrs.

I would not buy anything containing too much electronics like the M9 if I was not seriously looking for buying in the first place.
However my evil side is that I could easily melt in front of old stuff

I don't see this in real life though... prices of M8s with warranties and without aren't that different. I would imagine the M9 won't be much different.

So let Leica give it a CLA at the end of that year and get another year of guaranty.

Ah, thanks all. It is the "impulse buy urge" of the season.
It's about 20% discount. Enough to be very very tempting. Note enough to say "do it".

For $5600, I would have bought it.

My M5s need red dots!
Well, your will power was tested. Did it pass the test? Only time will tell... In the meanwhile, congratulations!
I wish I had a digital M5 though...

You can always buy. You can't always sell. A great deal on something you don't want and can't get rid of right away is just an offer to take your money. If you are not going to use the thing, then its only value is resale, no? If you are going to use the thing, then, of course, you should buy at the best deal possible.
