They (fuji canada) probably wouldn't know themselves.
Interestingly enough I emailed Zeiss a while back asking if they would be 'upgrading' the zf/ze 25mm f2.8, and I got a reply from someone quite high up saying that yes, an update to that design would be coming by the end of the year. At this point, there were no rumors about it or anything - they just told me outright.

I also think that the 40 will be a nice combo with any of te x series bodies. Nice, compact and a normal field if view. Can't wait!
