I went to one of the local thrift stores with my wife yesterday, and asked to look at the cameras they had, all in camera bags so you couldn't tell what they were. The first was a Pentax IQ Zoom, $15.00 if it worked. Ho hum ...

The second was a smaller P&S, with the name Leica, and a Vario-Elmar 35-70, without battery but looking good. $4.00 with case. The battery cost twice as much as what I paid for the camera. Go figure.

I will post a photo of the little beauty and shots it takes as soon as I can.

But,I have a Leica. Now what? Funny, it is bigger than my Sony Digital, so I won't carry it for size, but it uses film! I really want to see what it will do photo wise.

Funny, I never really wanted a Leica. I just thought they were snob appeal when there were so many other cameras that would take good photos. Will I change my mind? 😀 😀

Wow.... What a little beauty !!! I too am scanning thrift stores for bargains. Best so far is a Canon Sureshot Supreme for £3. It is now my take everywhere camera.

Regards, John.

A couple of days ago I was out pawnshopping and came across a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7 5MP digital P&S with a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 2.8-50/5.8-17.4 Asph lens with charger. I ended up paying $16.95 + tax. Paid another $20 for a SD card.

The camera takes razor sharp photos.

Yep, the bargains are out there. I just don't usually run across them any more. I don't know why. Probably someone else gets there ahead of me. What's funny in a way is that several days ago I got a non-working Nikkorex at the same place for $2.00. I haven't made up my mind if I want to work on it or give it to someone with more expertise and tools. The mirror is stuck in the up position but the meter seems good.

If that's a leica mini my daughter uses mine all the time. Nice little camera that takes good pictures. Well worth the cost of the battery and very easy for a novice to use.

Are you sure that the mirror-lockup mechanism isn't merely stuck? Sometimes just jiggling the mirror will return it to "normal."

edit: or does this just work on the F series?
