I finished a roll of film yesterday.

I finished a film yesterday, I realise now that I had loaded it into the camera in February and it was only 24 exposures.

I have now printed out the order form for processing, written a cheque (£6 dev & scans plus postage), found an envelope, made an address label and am now waiting to take it to the post office on Monday.

Makes you wonder...

Our family friends gave us media center furniture set. Two years ago. On the top drawer I noticed one film roll. It was exposed. I developed it and it was thier entire year. We knew them back then already. We were the same, one roll of film for months in the only one family camera. Less than ten years ago.
I wonder why it was norm and now brought here as something special.

But it happens to me, too, that I forget a film in one of my 30 cameras and find out a few months later...

Well, I try, too... But it does not work: 35mm, medium format, color slides, B&W, different ISO, ....

On reflection I'm not quite sure why I posted this in the first place...

Was it to demonstrate the 'effort' of sending a film off for processing?
Or was it to show that I have 'gone digital' despite my enthusiasm for film?

The film was in my M. I guess I pick up the Nex (with M lenses on) rather than the M itself. Looking back over the year it is clear that when I have wanted to make use of film I've gone back a further step in time and used LTM or Contax just for the fun of it.

Whatever, can't even remember what is on the first half of the film!

One of the pleasure when shooting film is that feeling of anticipation that you have in the time since you have finished to shoot and till when you finally see the pictures...at least for me...

Agree with you on that Robert. Something digital really doesn't offer.

B&W* or Colour Print or Slides for six quid? And where?

BTW, it could be worse; I often pick them up in charity shops and they've a half used film (Boots, Truprint, Photo Porst etc) and a dead battery in them. I guess they think they are broken; and give it to a charity shop...

I just picked up my digital M and noticed that there are pics on it from 6 months ago that I have not yet downloaded.

Never used them before but someone on this site once recommended them and it seems about as cheap as it comes (in the UK that is). I used to use Peak Imaging who are excellent but more £££s.

There are now eleven assorted rolls of film in the fridge. Question is, will I buy more?

My olympus XA went from 2012 to a few weeks ago with one roll. Nikon Fm2n 2013 to a few weeks ago. 2013 was when I bought an M8. It's only been the last few months that I've embraced film again.

A few years ago I could have a roll a long time in camera.
I took 9 months or so between September 2009 and May 2010 to shoot a roll of Kodachrome. Looking for individual frames, I am quite happy with that one.
And it was technically the first roll of slide film I ever shot and developed. (I shot a roll of Fujichrome late summer 2009 but had it processed at the end of 2010).

Having said that, I also let film get mature after it's been exposed... Just to wait for having small batches to send away.

In the next couple of days I should receive the scans of the few rolls of film I shot in the last couple months. Talk about Christmas 😀

I can get through a roll a little bit faster, but matters aren't helped by my being stuck with 36 exposures per roll. I suppose I could remember to ask for 24 exposure rolls, or take up bulk loading, but I always remember this choice about two-three days after I've bought the 36 picture stuff and loaded it in my camera(s)....

The saga continues...posting the film...Royal Mail now.

A cassette in a container is roughly 32mm in diameter, a cassette by itself is roughly 25mm (not measured across the mouth).

Put a 'naked' cassette into a padded bag and it exceeds the 25mm maximum thickness for second class large letters.

So it has to go via parcel post. The 2nd class costs jumps from 74p to £2.80.

This is now becoming a film vs digital thing! Sorry...

Well, unless you have a trusted lab you can walk/drive to, outsourcing dev/scan/print by shipping will be expensive for sure.
Moreover, during my recent trip in Scotland, I've discovered that everything related to phoography is quite expensive in the UK: buying a roll of Ilford XP2 (which is made in the UK) at Jessops in Inverness or in a Kodak Store in Edimburgh would costs about 10GBP, while I pay 6€ for it in Milan. It's nearly 3:1 cost, unbelivable!

Developing & scanning BW at home is the last (relatively) cheap way to do film photography.

I have a variety of camera's and usually 3-5 are loaded at one time. Different uses, slr, medium format and rangefinders. Yesterday I finished 3 of the loaded rolls at one time, felt great.
