...now that frank has let the cat out of the bag (in another thread), i guess it's time to admit it!

i bought a (barely) used d90, with grip and extra batteries along with a nikon 28-105 zoom lens.
the price was nice and it's in canada so no customs hassle. it might be here by friday so i just might have some new toys for my weekend play time.

i think it's the best starter kit for me at this time.
i will add lenses (mostly primes, i think) as money allows. no rush on this though...😉

any comments on this combo will be appreciated.

Coooool .... congrats
Let me know how it goes
I am looking for a digi....for late Night Fun
And was thinking X100 which you had
Or maybe ????

My neighbor has a D90. Seems like a nice starter body indeed. And one that might not need an upgrade anytime soon.

Helen - look into the Sony NEX system of cameras. The high ISO of the NEX-5n that I have is fantastic. Great for late nite, early morning, anytime fun! And it allows for mounting of tons of different lenses from Canon - Zeiss with an adapter.

I bought a Canon 450D this morning. Cheap as chips, but oh lord how small can the finder get!

... I'm intending to use it for photographing the kids indoors, and for "scanning" medium format negatives over a light table, so nevermind...

^ one of the prime reasons i switched from my D90 to 35mm SLR and then on to RF.

as one of my other dSLR->fSLR convert buddies said "Damn, it's like growing up watching ripped movies on an iPhone screen, and then seeing a movie at the drive-in for the first time..."

Joe: My suggestion of four inexpensive primes:
Nikkor 24/2.8 AF or AF-D
Nikkor 28/2.8 AF or AF-D
Nikkor 35/1.8 G
Nikkor 50/1.8 AF or AF-D
I use these on my Nikon D80 and they are all excellent. Of course, the 1.5X focal length increase must be factored in .

the 24 might be first on my list, followed by maybe the 50...good kit i think.

Good choice, joe! And good job bargain hunting too! I recall all your anxiety it causes you to purchase an item from the US side (and all the red tape that Canadians love to add).

When will you get it?
