One suggestion for a deal like this: When it's outside of ebay and paypal and all the other safeguards, is to have someone who is acceptable to each party broker the deal. Seller sends item to the mutually acceptable broker. Buyer sends broker the money. Broker (in this case someone like my son, Randy, who knows a huge amount about digital cameras, and is a friend also of Jorge's) examines the camera and, if it's as represented, sends the camera to Jorge and the money to slimeball.

Doesn't Ebay have a list of recommended escrow services for just this purpose?

Its been a year since this happened now and I have some news.

The San Diego DA has contacted me and said sentencing is scheduled for Sept 12th 2006. The person pleaded guilty to scamming others including me for a total of 27K. There is a chance I may get some money back. But I wont beleive that until I see it. If I am lucky enough to get money back it will go towards the M8.

Glad to see justice was served. But don't expect to collect a penny.

My experience has always been good with ebay and paypal, BUT I always use Amex with them and never bank transfers or Visa. Amex will instantly chargeback any bad deals. That is why Paypal makes every effort to have you NOT use Amex. Paypal is basically legally bound by the Amex return policies and cannot ignore them.

Also, never use the USPS, use fed-x.

Prison work only pays 10 cents an hour. It will take him decades to :bang: :bang: pay you off. Too bad for him. I hope them charge him room and board so it is not on my dime he lives free in prision.

Happy to hear you might get something back after your ordeal Jorge. Any indication he will get some serious time for this? Hopefully so. So often with a good lawyer (he did get a lot of scam money), a deal will include minimal time for only one offense. Sure hope that isn't so in this case.
