I guess what I mean, though, is, does the camera successfully stop down the 40 in TV mode? That is, it knows how to control aperture, even though there isn't an on-camera dial for it?

I have just actually taken some shots with the K-S1/53mm .
It blows away my old Sony A290 in terms of clarity of the finder and rear screen .
The pictures at wide open have excellent sharpness , even on screen , and the colours seem excellent .
At £220, new , warranted , with zoom and 35mm , I had no idea what to expect , but it seems up the standard of the X-Pro 1 / 37mm , on screen , at least .
I realise that it's ever been a DSLR of me , but this is the 1st time that I have stumbled across a camera with such a clear viewfinder .

This thread really got my motor running...I'm thinking of going all the way back to a Pentax DSLR and the 31 and 77 Limited, two of my all-time favorite lenses. Thanks for the mini-review!

I guess that I am returning to Pentax with the K1s , especially as I have an identical line up of kit zoom , 35mm and a 90s , 35-80 which follows on from my original 1997 Minolta 35-80.. now I could do with another K1S body .... only kidding , but it has revived my CCD Pentax K10D which had been gathering dust - it's even older than the Sony A290 !!! LOL .

My wife has owned and used a Pentax K1000 since college.
Recently she has been using a Nikon P7000 digital.
I just bought her a nice older Pentax dSLR, the K20D.

the 31, 43 and 77 ltds are awesome lenses--every bit as good imo as standard leica lenses. the 20-40 da ltd is also fantastically underrated and has a unique rendering character, is light/compact and is weather resistant. paired with the WR ks2--which imo has a ccd like rendering of its own, thats a nice combo right there.

I didn't even realize the 20-40 existed until the other day, and it looked to me like a perfect walk-around lens. So that's what I went for: the 20-40 and, after some thought, the new K-70. Both in silver. Excited about the lack of AA filter and the screen that can be closed completely. And the 100% finder. Will report.

Wow this is great all the Pentax Digital love, and you know what all the Pentax's
have that great (SR) Shake reduction in there cameras, which you could use on
even older lenses. It's a great feature to have and it comes in real handy at times.

Thanks! When the time comes, that's what I'll do...right now I'm planning on re-buying a ZX-5, one of their late film SLRs. As the years go by, its design looks better and better.

Take a very close look at the PZ1p. I had 2 PZ1's, which were the earlier model to the PZ1p, and the Pentax Rep (not store salesman) told me back in 1995 that the core motors were not standing up especially with the bigger lenses. I have been very happy since I moved up to (2) PZ1p's for my film/slides. Truly a work horse of a camera.
