i posted this under the original thread but i just wanted to share this with all.
it's about the 28/3.5 canon lens i just bought from rob (Phelsuma).
rob sent me the 28mm lens on thursday and IT WAS DELIVERED TODAY!!
2 days later! and ya wanna know why?
no friggin' customs involvement!!
the lens arrived and needed a cleaning but it cleaned up very nicely. the stuck filter came unstuck with a firm twist of my wrench, the mouse pad did not work on this one. this lens HAS filter threads while my other 28 (which is older) does not.
the finder also cleaned up well but i am sad to report that this finder has a small nick in the front glass and, while not as annoying as the first finder, IS somewhat annoying. but i cannot complain as the price was excellent and the delivery time was phenomenal.
it also came with canon front cap (which at 36mm is damed cute) and rear caps plus original case.
all in all, a much better deal than i got from the australian estate company that i bought the first one from. (may they rot in a very warm place...)
i'm a happy camper.

great, can't wait to see some shots with it, it sounds like a tight little lens.

I one had one and sold it. Oh well, I still have the 28mm Rokkor lens. Joe, you seem to like the Canon lenses a lot.

thanks guys.
raid, i do like them.
that they were created for the cameras that i like.
that they feel so solid and well made and i love that they have a history when they come to me and i will become part of their history when they leave me.
i really like that i am putting together a kit that i would be proud to hand down to someone.

Joe, are these Canon lenses Leica screw-mount?
back alley
IMAGES
yes, they are screwmount lenses.
i used to think that screwmount lenses were for losers, that was when i had to have the latest matrixed camera available in order to take 'good pictures' but now i love them.
nothing against a quick mount lens btw, but i don't change lenses much and if i think i'm going to need a few focal lengths for a particular shoot then i can have up to 3 bodies handy.

I knew nothing about Canon screw-mounts until that fellow you met from Edmonton that used to work as a rep for Olympus mentioned some of the models, etc, like his VL? VT? You met him at a camera swap meet, Joe.

I don't know what the dealy-o on the customs situation for your lens was, but I'm sure you know that there are several Canadian companies that ship Cuban cigars into the states with no problems, only something like one in twenty boxes gets stopped.
To be fair, I think they don't mark them as cigars on the customs forms though.

It was probably marked, "GIFT," or "they" presumed it was a gift since it's so close to Christmas.

not the direction i was talking about, those cigars would have to go through american customs.
coming from the states my stuff has to go through canadian customs.
i still have a 135/3.5 lens that was maild nov 23 that is no where in sight.
my 35/3.5 tht was mailed on dec. 3 arrived the other day.
so, it's not canada post but canada customs that holds things up.
frank, what/who are you talking about?
forum life would be so much easier for all concerned if you just said what you want to say and skip the cryptic crap.

I don't yet have an RFF with screw mount lenses, but I like them for a different reason. I cut my teeth on them with my first interchangeable lens camera and learned something. I don't need to look at any lugs or index marks to use them. I set them on the lens mount and turn them counterclockwise until I feel them set in their grooves and reverse the turn. Great for low light work!
Anyway, happy for you Joe.

Hi Joe, lucky man, I just bought this one form frenchflockie (nice price) so this is my second CANON wideangle. I don't expect much in terms of performance off center, but maybe some nice scenic atmosphere. Haven't had a RF 28mm yet... cheers, Frank

He's from Winnipeg, we e-mail each other about the good ol' days, exchange info, etc, etc, and he gave me a nice new 35RC hood last summer. He's a terrific guy.

He was going to come out for those 2 camera swap meets some months back, but I kind of talked him out of it because they're far from what they used to be. The 1st meet over at Kerrisdale Arena really sucked this year, but I went anyway because it is just a few minutes away from my place. It was so bad, in fact, that the venders left 2 hours early! The other one over in Burnaby wasn't much better. It's, 'er..., like a long drive from Edmonton to Vancouver just to go to a cr_ppy camera swap meet or 2. I bet Saskatchewan has better ones.
