Do you know that over half the folks who join RFF never post a single reply?

No, but you seem to have more time on your hands than I do, or the registered users who never post...
My question is why join if you never post?

The best camera is one that still works!
I think a lot of people who use this forum treat it more as an on line magazine and feel no need to involve themselves in the discussions ... and others are just very shy I supect.
Which ever way you use it, it's a great resource if you own and shoot rangefinder cameras!

Probably many find this isn't for them. Others are shy about expressing an opinion considering some of the incredible talent, amature and professional we have here.
Whatever the reason people join. If they post or not. If people who come here take away something positive, that is good. Who knows if you may be an inspiration to some one.

There was a giveaway a few years ago, I suspect a bunch were from that.

I've never seen this here, but on another forum when you ask a question, what usually happens many times
Someone shoots back ever heard of Google?

IIRC, you can't view attachments in threads if you are not logged in, and you can't log in unless you're registered. Most forums have a large contingent of lurkers.

I just googled "why join if you never post", and the message with my question was on front page, but there was no answer...

I get PM's from people who never post, who tell me whom to set fire to next, or congratulate me on letting the air out of one pompous chowderhead or another. I never know why they think I do that.

I guess I would be someone that is a registered user but rarely post anything. When I first registered I was just starting to look at alternatives to slr and digital cameras and I had just picked up a Yashica GSN and wanted to learn more about it. So I did a search on rangefinder cameras and ended up here. The reason for not posting that much is that I never really had a need to. Every question that I had about rangefinder cameras has usualy been ask a hundred times before. So it wasn't that hard to get what I wanted to know. Since then I have picked up a few more cameras like my Fed 3 and my Konica 35C plus a few scale focus folders. But the learning process with them has been the same. I find the majority of the members here to be highly knowledgable about photography and all of it's aspects and this site has become an addiction for me. So even though you won't hear from me often, rest assured that I be lurking here at least 2 or 3 times a day.

Me! But then, if Bill was part of the context, it was bound to be interesting...

I must admit that I treat RFF as a bit of a magazine - usually have a read first thing in the morning with my coffee.

I know a bunch of folks that don't post 'cause they think they are not capable of writing understandable English. But they are able understand others post's.

... likes film again.
I am not native speaker and usually don't care ...
(... but keep out of discussions going to deep into political or philosophical topics, that level of language is way above my writing skills.)

Explanation of "you ever heard of Google?"
On another photo forum ... whenever a newbie asks a question about gear, technique, or whatever, a disgruntled experienced member will many times answer "don't you know how to use google?" or something to that effect. (they want the newbie to try and find the answer themselves first)
Maybe new members are too afraid to participate for that reason.
