after seeing Steveh's thread this morning the images looked too good to not at least try out the X-Pro1.

At around 1:30pm local time I made a call to my local camera merchant who informed me they had one in that I could come down and try - so, I curtailed my Walpoling activities, sallied forth, and infiltrated their place of purveyance to negotiate the vending of some X-Pro1 gear!

Welp, I'm now looking to sell a few cameras - the X-Pro1 felt that good in my hands (yes, a lot lighter than I expected) that I was almost sold immediately. I was surprised at a couple things - the store received 15 bodies, same number of 35 lenses and a smaller amount of 18 and 60 lenses. They had 6 of the bodies/lenses gone by the time I had gotten there and not all were "spoken for" already - this surprised me since I figured they would have been gone in a heartbeat.

I'm not sure what the issue is with respect to manual focus - at least of the "kit" lenses. It didn't seem to be that much of an issue for me. I'll await the m-mount adapter accordingly however.

The "chattering" - meh - I noted it but I don't think it'll be that much of an issue in my opinion. I can see if you're taking photos at a funeral... or a library... or a museum.. or art gallery.. but in general I don't think it'll be that big of a deal.

Hopefully will get to play with it a bit tonight as I have a wine event to attend to.

Cheers,
Dave

yesterday i infiltrated my place of purveyance to buy the xpro1, but walked out with the black x100.
im just going to wait for the omd to arrive... just a feeling i will like the oly more.

I'm a bit surprised that we already have some X-pro 1s in Toronto. I might pass by some stores downtown next week to check out the camera.

BTW, nice Monty Python reference :)

Sounds like a good decision to me. Your only possible avoidance of this very reasonable decision would have been if your place of purveyance had been completely uncontaminated by any glass containing photographic purchasable. Did you just get the 35 to start with?

I picked up both the 18mm and the 35mm.

I am really liking the way this camera handles.

Cheers,
Dave

Worse. He went to get his Saturday because I told him I got my preorder Friday and that I liked the camera.

It is just jealousy. So much he got the 18 as well ;-) Now I just hope he hates the 18 to give it to me :)
